Default EGR showing N/A 2003 ES300

Hi Folks,

Need to do smog check soon so I check monitors with OBD2. All monitors shows ok except for the EGR showing N/A. Does this mean, the OBD2 not capable of reading EGR system or my car's EGR is "not ready" or "incomplete" and I will fail the smog check? Do I need to do full drive cycle?

I'm assuming you're not getting a green light, I would suggest trying another reader.
Separately, depending on your states inspection regulations one or two incomplete readiness monitors may be allowed to pass.

Depending on location/market there may be no EGR system.

Hello,

The answer is a little more trivial - you car simply doesn't have an EGR valve. Toyota did away with it when they introduced a VVT-i system on MZ engines in 1999, where the action of the EGR valve is now emulated by the VVT-i system.

Hope this helps and best of luck!

Even though my 2000 ES300 is from Arizona, it is a California spec car, with 3-way catalyst and stuff, and it doesn't have EGR.

Yes, I am getting a green light. Just curious and little worried about the N/A reading. I am in California. I'm going to chance it and see tomorrow.
