Right Turn Signal Not Working
When turning on my headlights at night my right turn indicator on the dashboard lights up even though I don't have my right turn indicator engaged. Along with this the front and rear right turn signal bulbs are constantly on (without flashing) and do not flash when trying to signal a right turn. I recently found my front right turn indicator socket is broken but I'm not sure if this may also be impacting both bulbs from experiencing the same issue. The weird part is the left side is fully functional when my headlights are on/off and the right side is fully functional when the headlights are off with the front right turn indicator working despite the socket being broken. Has anyone else experienced this issue? (98 Lexus ES300)
Hello,
Never seen that before, but I do have a few guesses. Turn Signal bulb has two filaments, one (more powerful) for turn signal, the other (less powerful) for corner lights. It seems like the broken socket may have shorted against the second filament in the bulb, causing the right side to light up. To test this theory, disconnect the broken light completely from the pigtail and see if anything would change, you should see the turn signal start flashing quite rapidly if you were to turn it on with a light missing. If that won't yield any result, try pulling the flasher relay to see if the lights would turn off, if not, you may have a short in the wiring.
Hope this helps and best of luck!
