Default Shifter cable broke...ouch! 600$!!

Hi there, I have a 2000 ES-300 Millenium edition. The car is super clean for a Quebec car. My shift cable broke and it seems only Lexus has it and its 600$ and is in California. I thought these cars had a lot of the same parts as a Camry.
Does anyone have a suggestion as to what cable I can get that will be cheaper?
I have been buying all my parts at rockauto, but they don't have that cable.
Thanks
Jim

Definitely something to grab from a salvage yard the part number is 33820-33161. If you can't find one used then get it direct from Japan total cost to me shipped is $260 or maybe you can find a Lexus dealer in the U.S. that ships to Canada for a reasonable price.

The cable is only used on the 1999-2001 ES300.

You're in luck I found one on Ebay they claim it was pulled from a 2001 ES300.

The cable from a 1997-1998 ES could be the same (or at least fit) not sure can't tell because the part numbers don't change up. The transmission itself is different 1999+

I did see that other one, but doesn't that mean its used? I want a new one so I don't have to worry about changing it in a year or two.

Then buy the one from Japan I linked to. The cable from an onilne Lexus dealer is $300 U.S. so amayama.com is at least $150 cheaper.

I don't know the quality of that cable it says made in Japan but is it? By whom? Might be fine might be worse than a used one. Also they say "OE cross reference# 33820-33140 or 33820-06081" these numbers are not cross compatible according the Lexus.

Roll the dice hopefully it will be fine. BTW you should be able to find the same cable at NAPA.

I kind of had a feeling the eBay one might not be the best quality. I'll order the one from Japan.

Make sure you select EMS International as the shipping method or it will take until sometime next year spring show up. But it will still take 2-3 weeks. BTW even the 1997-1998 cable is $220 U.S. plus shipping so you won't save getting that one and it might not fit.

Us Canadians get royally ripped off on parts prices.

We sure do, my mechanic told me it was 600$ from Lexus. The problem is I have three kids and can't live two weeks without a car. My mechanic said he's going to try to mcgyver something together so I can at least drive it. Not sure if its possible. he is just picking it up now.

Did the cable itself break or the plastic portion that connects to the shifter inside the car?

my transmission shop repaired it 2 years ago. I think they took the middle console off to get to it. it is still going strong. charged me $200 for labor.
