Front end noise - opinions?
Did some searching but couldn't find exactly what I was looking for. I have a 2000 ES300, 159k miles.
Currently, I have a "popping" sound coming from the driver side front tire area. It occurs every time I turn to the left more than 10 degrees (or go around a left hand turn) or so and happens again when I straighten the wheel. It happens consistently. But, if I turn the wheel to the right or go around a right hand bend and to straight, no noise.
Not as consistently, I will hear a similar popping sound but most times not as severe when going over uneven road surfaces, even while driving straight.
I recently replaced the front sway bay links on both sides with pretty heavy duty ones (much larger than when I did them previously and these have zert grease fittings). They are tight on both sides.
Does my issue sound like a strut/strut mount, something else? I can't seem to narrow it down.

Strut and strut mount issues typically react to vertical movement - going over a bump or hitting a pothole. So that's posisble.
The car has enough miles and age that it could be one of several different wear points. A start is to jack the front up and rock the wheels to investigate bearings , ball joints, and tie rods.
If you recently strengthened one component in a system, it will usually result in revealing weaknesses elsewhere, as previously things were wearing and working in sympathy. You might be putting more downforce now on your lower control arm, and you are hearing another joint revealing it's wear.

Just wanted to follow up. Had a chance to look at it on Saturday. Ended up being the bottom nut on the sway bar end link I replaced a couple months ago loosened up a little and was allowing some play. That was causing the popping noise. Tightened it back up and all is good.
