ES300's at the Drag Strip ?

sc300 is better for racing than an es300. the sc is rwd, u can get it with a 5spd manual, and the parts availabillity is much better than that of the es. some car mags have tested the 97-up es300 doing the quarter in the high 15s and 0-60 in the high 7s. theoretically, the trd supercharger could work on the es300 but to my knowledge, nobody has installed one yet. common mods done to an es are cold air intakes, exhausts, drop springs, and rims. the es is good if you need the room of a 4dr and fwd when winter time comes. if u can bust out a little extra cash for the sc300, u can mod that sucker to do 11s!

Cars with Turbos are not good drag cars. If you give them a rolling start of say 30MPH, watch out. The boost doesn't start until around 3,000 RPM. They have low compression engines ( the ones that last) so they only develope torque with boost. If you think the Supra is slow, check this out (large download). Note the acceleration after he gets out of first and keeps the RPMs up.

Most turbo cars that are not awd arent going to hit their ET potential at the track without slicks. They will however, meet their trap speed potential. I'm not exactly sure as to what any of this has to do with es300s at the strip though...

As far as I know, the stock ES is capable of doing high 15s to low 16s on the 1/4-mile, and I would like to hear from others who have driven their ES (modded or not) on the drag strip
Let's bring this thread back to point

"lucky D'' Lexus' arent drag strip cars although they got some nice acceleration. Lexus' are baller cars period. You are however right that there isn't much you can do aftermarket wise. Lexus es300's have some nice torque on it because it's a in-line 6 so if you got a supercharger and a turbo on it the car would simply be SICK! Lexus should really add some more zest in the es300s. Eveen though it is too late to that in the first generation cars. by the way i have a 92es300 currently stock.

If you want some faster times at the track with the ES300 without modifying the engine, take as much weight out of ithe car as you can. Remove the spare tire, mats, etc. Every pound helps.
Lower compression has nothing to do with lack of torque, whereas, higher compression certainly doesn't equal increased torque, either. My previous car, an Integra Type R, with a relatively high compression ratio of 10.6 made a measely 130 lb. ft. of torque. Though, the car made 180 WHP
Torque and HP are not indepent variables.
Torque = (HP * 5252) / RPM
HP=(Torque * RPM) /5252
Higher compression engines generate more HP, so they also generate more torque. At what RPM they generate their max torque and HP is the question. http://ubermensch.org/Cars/Technical/hp-tq
