Default Flex pipe cost??

Told I need a new one to pass inspection (03 ES330 FYI)......I haven't gotten estimate yet but online I am seeing ridiculously expensive repair costs. Has anyone done recently and what was the ball park total cost? It sounds like thanks to an idiotic design by Lexus this is all one piece w/the cat converter, driving the silly high cost (i.e. can't just replace the pipe)?

Anyone? Thx!

Default 2003 ES300 y-pipe

I just replaced my daughter's. Purchased the y-tube with catalytic converter pipe for $197 and about 4 hours work. Most of the work was removing the old pipe and some drilling because of broken welds on the old bolts. It was a Wagner branded part and came from Canada, I can't remember the company but I found them on e-bay. I also replaced both downstream O2 sensors when doing this job. Those came from Rock Auto, Denso brand, $54, I believe. Midas wanted $900, Toyota wanted $800 to replace it, not including the O2 sensors.

Find a place that will cut it out and weld in a generic one. Did that to my 2004 3 years ago and it's been good since, cost like $200, but you'll need to go to an exhaust shop. The dealer or a place like Goodyear or Midas will likely only suggest replacing the entire section

I had mine cut and welded in on an 05 ES330. It should be around $200 or less.

Better to buy your own and ask shop to install it. Muffler shops will install a cheap aluminized steel piece, usually undersized, e.g. 4" long instead of 6". You can buy a nice full size stainless steel flex for $30-40.

Also, make sure shop does not destroy/discard factory support on Y-pipe. The shop I used did that to my 99 Avalon. Cost me over $50 to buy new supports. Shop reimbursed me but it was still a PITA and totally unnecessary.

I had my old flex pipe cut off / removed, and a new flex pipe welded in at a muffler shop.
Off the top of my head, I paid CAD$175 cash.....which translate to USD$135.
