1993 Camry V6 info needed (same engine as ES300)
Hello all. I know this is a Lexus site, but the 3.0L V6 Camrys have the same engine and built on the same basic platform. I have not been able to find any good Camry sites, other than Yahoo and most there are not familiar with the V6 Camry's. I am considering a 1993 Camry LE 4dr V6 sedan for a work car. I have not closely looked at the car, but I think my uncle said it had almost 200K. The car is white, with blue interior. Body and interior is in excellent shape. My main concern is the engine. With 200K miles, is this car probably about worn out? Someone said the 4-cyl Camrys will outlast the V6 Camry's. I plan on taking a closer look at the car this week. What trouble areas should I check closely on this particular car? The car is priced @ $2600., but I think I can get it somewhere between $2000-$2400. Should I pass on this car with this many miles? I have had other 4-cyl Camrys and Accords in the past, with well over 200K and running fine, but not a V6 Toyota. My dad has a 88 Nissan truck with the factory 3.0L V6 and it has 250K and never any major mechanical problems. So I know Nissan makes a good V6, but unsure about the Toyota V6's of the early 90s. Any info/advice appreciated.

Did you try the largest Camry forum www.camryman.org or the largest Camry & Solara club in the world teamsc3.com or camryclub.org? Our forums (www.teamsc3.com) are down since we are having some technical difficulties with our message boards. Should be up again shortly.
The 92-93 Camry/ES300 V6 3VZ-FE engine is a very solid engine and finding one with a manual is a tough one..especially for the Camry and ES300. Something to lookout for with the VZ series of engines 2VZ and 3VZ are weak headgaskets. Other than that...the motor has been very reliable over the years with the basic regular maintenance.
Your best source for this motor would be:
www.Camryman.org
www.Camryclub.org aka Teamsc3.com
www.toyotanation.com
Good Luck!

Thanks for the reply. I confirmed the mileage on the car today and it has 211,000. The car is supposed to run perfectly and it is in excellent shape. The interior looks like new, including the driver seat, so I am assuming it is possibly highway miles. I may drive the car this week and offer $1800.

Thanks again for the replies. I actually bought the car today. I was suprised at how well the 3.0L (3000) V6 runs, considering the mileage. Engine is smooth, transmission smooth and despite the 211K, the car is still 100% rattle and squeak free. I am guessing it has mostly highway miles, since the driverside front carpeting is still like new, as well as the brake. Only two problems I noticed is that the power antenna motor runs, but the antenna does not retract. Also, the power steering reservior looks like it is leaking a little, but I think it is the hose. Overall it is in excellent condition. Thanks again for the replies and the link to the Camry site.

We're all lucky in that if you're in this forum, our cars are fairly bulletproof. Just don't push your luck eh?
Unless know for yourself the maintanace history of a vehicle, Start the entire thing from scratch if you have the money. Better safe than sorry.
Do it all if it needs it; don't if it dosen't. Just be very smart in how you treat your car. Mainly... Don't let any problems that crop up now that it's yours linger. Act on them if you can! Don't take the fact that it's a Toyota for granted. It's still 211,000 miles young. Hopefully it'll last many more.
What am I saying? Anyone smart enough to find this place is smart enough to know that LoL!
