Default 96 Es300 excessive play in steering

Didn't see this posted when I was researching. My 96 ES300 developed a lot of "play" in the steering. No shimmy or vibrations, just required turning the steering wheel an extra 4" before it would turn.

Turns out it was nothing to do with the steering. The rear struts had failed and I was riding on the springs. Replaced the struts and the steering was back to normal.

Thanks. Good post. I had similar experience. There was also some bump steer due to failing rear struts for me. This went away after rear strut change.
