Default Car battery bubbling / leaking

I mentioned this in my starting problem issues thread but wanted to mention and seek advice on the issue specifically.

I inherited the battery in the car from the previous owner. It wouldn't surprise me if he drove it too me with a decent battery in it, and pulled over at the service station just before getting to me and put the oldest crappiest battery he had in for me.

While trying to start the car and listening to the starter motor I noticed liquid coming out from the cells of the battery. Not heaps but enough to make me think that's not normal... Can anyone suggest a cause of this? It only seems to happen while turning the ignition over, the starter clicks twice and liquid comes from battery... Is this a sign of a dicky battery battery? Do batteries sometimes leak a little liquid when trying to start? (surely not, I never seen it, but perhaps I just never took notice)

No, batteries are not supposed to leak or bubble. Replace it.

thank you....

I suspected it was not in good health but sometimes things happen that don't seem right that are really of no consequence...
