From what I have heard the VVT cam gear can get stuck messing with the timing. In someone else case the exghuast valves were opening a little too early. Can be the V VT solenoid as well

if that was the case wouldnt it just give me a multiple misfire code? i find a faulty v v t cam gear or solenoid just affecting the #5 and #6 cylinder odd. are 5 and 6 cylinders next to each other?

Cylinders 5 and 6 are directly opposite each other

when my 99 had a misfire (car kept stumbling to accelerate ) it just turned out to be a bad coil.

i going to check that. but its wierd that two opposite cylinders are misfiring. what are the odds that both coils went out.

Very easy to understand as both cylinders use the same coil which is called wasted spark system. Each time that either #5 or #6 cylinder is ready to fire, both spark plugs fire. The coil pack is directly over the front plug, and has a plug wire to the rear spark plug. Use a small dab of dielectric grease on the spark plug terminal before pushing on the boot. If you move the coil to a different spot, the problem should follow if the coil is bad.

2001 ES does not have a waste spark system. But this problem is probably due to one or more bad coils.

Would a bad coil make the manifold red hot?

oh and i forgot that my check engine light would flash as well.

btw, never looked at the manifold if it was hot or not. are you sure it looks red hot? only time ive seen a red hot manifold was when my evo was on a dynapack getting tuned and you can seen the manifold turn red (but that's because im moving a lot of air)

I have similar issues with my lexus rx330. The check engine light keeps blinking, the car shakes even when stationary with the engine on especially in traffic, and the car does not ride smoothly on the high way.

I took it to a mechanic workshop/servicing centre where it was suggested that it's engine spark plugs problem which I let them change all six. The air filter and adjacent parts were cleaned including the air flow meter. However, prior to the development of this "flashing check engine light" they have changed the passenger front shock absorberror, both shaft tubing protector, and the two steering locks (the thyroid, the previous day. The problem continues.

Today, I had the car scanned and got these codes:
C1223 (malfunctioning ABS)
C1246 (malfunctioning master cylinder pressure sensor)
P0304 (s1 and s2)

Please I need help for the interpretation of these results/code and how I will sort out these problems.

Thank you all in advance.

^ Oil Control Valves... or VVTI solenoids, two names, same thing.

Too bad you changed all that in your car - it's not the problem... a lot of $$ wasted there!

I had same thing. My plugs were 8k old at the time, there's no way ALL THREE coilpacks will go at once, tried it anyways. It worked for 10mins,then came back. It was simple [easy DIY btw], ~90$/ea. solenoids... If you can return some of that stuff, I'd encourage it, you dumped UNnecessary money into it...

I have no idea about ABS codes... could be the master is on its way out - became common on 2GS' once they got to a certain age, the RX330's are getting old too....
