Default OBD Monitor / Readiness

Trying to get my 98 ES300 to pass smog after a long and frustrating adventure with P1410 EGR issue. Have replaced EGR valve, position sensor, VSV, VCV, and a few vac lines. I think it may be ready to go, but the OBD can't seem to run all the monitors in order to ready it for test. With time, I know it will eventually run... but I don't have much more time to spend waiting and hoping, I have a court date for the reg violation! Have driven the car 200 miles or so after resetting the CEL, still not ready. Waiting for CAT, EVAP, and O2 monitors. Any hints as to how to accelerate these monitors? I've tried to mix it up, combination of highway and city driving, stop and go, I keep pulling into the smog joint, and while the guy has been very accommodating I'm feeling like a bit of a burden to get him to hook up his monitor just to tell me its not ready. I have a code reader, but it doesn't check monitor status. Any hints on how to get these monitors to run faster?

You must meet a specific criteria for each monitor in order for it to set. There is no other way. Only thing you can really do is just drive it and with a scanner you can check if the readiness status are ready.

Since your car is a 98, you are only required to have 2 monitors complete and your car will still pass.

Thanks much GS4_Fiend... the smog guy tells me it will fail as long as there are monitors that haven't run. Not sure how it can pass with only two monitors completed, doesn't that defeat the purpose?

Anyway I've downloaded the TB detailing the Readiness Monitor Drive Patterns and will have to go through that... last time I tried running through the drive patterns it didn't change anything, still had to drive off another tank of gas.

If you are from CA, and your car is a 98, it will PASS with 2 monitors period. Engine light must be off.

Never heard of these monitors. I have nothing else to add, it was just nice to learn something new.

There is a specific way of driving to satisfy the....8 or so monitors active on the 98 ES300, and no, 2 won't do satisfy requirements, I'm not even from CA and I know that is absolutely ridiculous. All of them have had to go through that drive cycle requirement in order to pass, if you hook up a scan tool it shows you which ones have passed, which ones are incomplete, which ones failed. Although you mentioned ones for your CAT and EVAP, I'm not positive but usually those are easy to complete, (or possibly show up as N/A, maybe this guy is confused?)
