Default Clunking rear end

In hopes that someone else will have this problem and do a search.

I had clunking coming from my rear end every time I went over a bump, it honestly sounded like I had golf ***** rolling around in my trunk. I did a search and it seemed the most likely culprits were either my strut mounts (fairly new) or my rear sway bar bushings. I ordered some new bushings and FINALLY got around to installing them.

Install:
Jack up the car and put the rear on jack stands to take take the weight off the sway bar. Remove both rear wheels. Remove two bolts for each sway bar bushing, slap the new ones on and put everything back together.

It took about an hour considering I have wheel locks and switching out tools etc. It was relatively easy, if you can change your oil or replace a wheel then you can change your sway bar bushings. It completely solved the clunking noise in the rear!

I'll try and post pics of the comparison between the old bushing and the new one.

I forget the price for the bushings, I got them at Lexus, but if I recall, they were about $36 for the pair.

i think i might have a similar issue. what if there is the same sound coming from the front? i think it's the front. i can only hear it if i have no music on and i go over smaller sized bumps on uneven (****ty) roads.

Cool

GREAT post!
This issue comes up a LOT, so hopefully folks will actually use the search engine and find that your solution will fix their problem.

(How come I'm not seeing you and that pretty ES around now that you're actually in my neck of the woods?)

haha, I work like 80-100hrs a week right now at the hospital. I don't often make it to Dallas, but the ES is ALL over Fort Worth! Plus it looks a little different than my sig because I have the '01 tails on it.

Thank you for this thread. I have the same issue going on with my Caddy and haven't had the time to figure it out. I may go ahead and do that this summer.

I had the same issue on my 94. Its a common issue with the 94-01 camerys and es300s.
