Default Power steering fluid

Hi,

I am a new member and have a 2005 Lexus ES330 with 51,000 miles on it.

During a recent service visit, the dealer recommended a power steering fluid flush since they said the power steering fluid is very dark. Does anyone have any experience with this? I checked the owner's manual and I could not find anywhere where it even recommends changing the power steering fluid.

I have done this service with other cars we own and I am beginning to wonder if there is any real merit to it or if it is mostly about dealer profit.

Thanks for your help.

It is mostly dealer profit. It is not neccessary, Waste of money in my opinion. I did my own as its relatively easy to do.

It is neccessary and it's not a wast of money if you DIY. I changed mine for under 10 bucks LOL. just suck out the old stuff from the reservoir with a "turkey baster" (I used a big custom syringe) and then pour in the new one. Drive for a couple of hundred miles and do it again to get the rest out.

unplug a ps hose(from return line or radiator) to somewhere suitable to dump in a bucket then start car and turn off immediately to let it run out, or option 2 is to use siphon pump used for gas
