I'm starting a new project for my 2002 Lexus ES 300..
I want to place a scanner inside the ashtray compartment, alas I don't know whats behind the ashtray.
I have a general idea of how to remove the ashtray from the console due to finding a tutorial on here in the DIY. I just don't know what is BEHIND the ashtray.
Will my scanner be able to go in it? Or is something there blocking it? Is it just an empty compartment once you take ashtray out :-) ?
Hey MXRacer, did you end up doing this? I'm actually looking to do something similar...remove the guts of the ashtray and cut a hole in the facade of that piece to insert my Garmin GPS unit...about to just get up in there and see what's behind the curtain. any pictures/insight, let me know!
^ It's an empty void. And his is slightly different since he did this on a 2002 ES300.
I'm sure it'd be a nice piece, but might be kind of a pain since you'd lose the ashtray and the trim piece between the ashtray & bottom of the radio. All the while have to make a nice piece, or mold/cut the face of the ashtray & other trim piece together to make it nice.
