Default Simple Door Light Mod

I was wondering if it is OK to put 10 Watt bulbs in for the door lights. I see that the manual recommends 5 watt 168 type bulbs.

Did you want them to be brighter? I was thinking of using LEDs if they have any.

Brighter or just as bright as stock. Whiter with or without a bluish tint. Descriptive enough. I know LEDs will be dim compared to stock.

1 watt high power LEDs should work fine.

go with LEDs. makes a huge difference. i didnt buy bulbs though, i bought the cheap LEDs that ricers use to "pimp" out there rides. instead of sticking them somewhere stupid i cut off the wire harnesses for the bulbs and spliced the LED in. Cheaper than buying LED bulbs but it does take more time. Looks good.... ill see if i can upload some pics

The light pattern of the LED's wont emit as much light as the stock bulbs, It will be whiter, But not illuminate as much. Your best bet would be to get "Cyber White Xenon bulbs" they are made by Pilot. I have used them in the past, they are just as bright, if not brighter than the stock bulbs, but emit a very nice white light.

I believe that the 168 bulbs are the same as 194 bulbs. The XL-194W are the bulbs I have used.

Thanks JSM. I will definitely give them a try when I can.

What about bulb life? I notice they have a very distinguishable blue coat.

Ive never had one burn out.

Its not a blue coating, The glass itself is a natural blue color, But the light that is emitted is a very nice white, not blueish like alot of the "White" LED's are.

I'll take pics of a side by side comparisan for you tonight.

I got mine from Wal-Mart, but i believe since Wal-mart has stopped carrying them. I e-mailed Pilot the other day asking how to obtain more, I am still waiting to here back from them.

LOL..... If they were on clearance, Walmart probably did stop carrying them and that price will be hard to duplicate. But it will be interesting to see what Pilot's reply is to your inquiry.
