Keyless entry remote programming?
Does anyone know the procedure for reprograming a keyless entry remote for a 1997 ES300?
Also, I recently acquired 2 remotes, one of the ID #'s matches my original remote but the other does not. I was told they both were used on an ES300. Does the ID # on the back of the remote corrospond to the model, year, both or neither? Will I be able to use them both?
The ID #'s are:
1. HYQ1512P, CANADA 1551 102 199, DENSO (Matches mine)
2. HYQWDT-C, CANADA 1551 K1420, CANADA 210
Any help will be appreciated.
Thanks,
John

Steve, you can purchase them on ebay like I did, here is a link:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/aw-cg...802544&r=0&t=0
Email me personally if you have any problems. It's a specific procedure that must be followed exactly step by step.

Erfan,
You can go to the dealer and pay $85

Keyless Remote Programming
I just purchased a keyless remote for my '97 ES300 off of e-bay. ($14.80 inlc. shipping - dlr wants $170!) I programmed it using the following instructions and it works perfectly. I'm not sure if these instructions work for other models but I know they don't work for earlier years. Here they are...
Sit in the driver's seat and lock all the doors.
Unlock and open the driver's door.
Insert the key into the ignition and remove it (don't turn it...just remove it).
Using the MANUAL lock switch on the driver's door, lock and unlock the door 5 times.
Close the door.
Open the door.
Lock and unlock the driver's door 5 times using the MANUAL lock switch.
Insert the key into the ignition and turn it to the "ON" position.
Remove the key.
The driver's door will now lock and unlock itself one time.
Press and hold the "LOCK" button on the key fob for at least 1 second.
Close the driver's door.
Open the driver's door.
Press and hold the "LOCK" button on the key fob for at least one second.
Close the driver's door.
Press and hold the "LOCK" button on the key fob. The door will lock.
Press and hold the "LOCK" button on the key fob again. The door will unlock.
All done!
This automatically programs the remote to open the trunk as well.
Cheers!

I know this is a very old thread, but I wanted to mention a few things in case people came down to this point:
I had a key that was failing to unlock our 2000 L400, too. Upon examining the key, I discovered that the micro-switch under the unlock button had broken off from its soldered joints. This is a "
I followed the LS400 remote programming procedure:
===== START PROGRAMMING =====
Remote Programming 1. Close and lock all doors. Unlock and open drivers door.
2. Put key into ignition and remove. Do not turn it on.
3. Using the electric lock switch. Lock and unlock 5 times. (Lock, Unlock, Lock, Unlock, Lock, Unlock, Lock, Unlock, Lock, Unlock)
4. Close and open drivers door.
5. Using the electric lock switch. Lock and unlock 5 times. (Lock, Unlock, Lock, Unlock, Lock, Unlock,Lock, Unlock, Lock, Unlock)
6. Put key into ignition. Turn to "ON" , turn off and remove.
7. You will see the door locks cycle by themselves.
If the door locks do not cycle (lock and unlock) by themselves then the car isn’t in programming mode and you must start over.
8. On the remote, press and hold the LOCK and the UNLOCK button at the same time for no more than 2 seconds.
9. On the remote, press the LOCK button for no more than 1 second.
AT THIS POINT, the locks should cycle by themselves ONE time. This means the procedure was accepted.
IF the locks cycle twice it has failed.
The most common reason for programming failure is because the car didn’t receive a good signal from the remote. To fix this problem try these tips. 1) Stand outside of the car while you are performing steps 8 and 9. 2) Don’t hold the remote buttons down as long.
As long as the car is still in programming mode you can keep trying steps 8 and 9 until you complete the programming. If you wait too long and the car exits the programming mode then you must start over.
After you get the remote to program then continue on with step 10.
10. Close and open door to end programming procedure.
===== END PROGRAMMING =====
... BUT -- despite clearly getting into programming mode, the programming failed!
My dealer claimed the remote could NOT be programmed in this way -- that the dealer machine was needed.
Just saying in case someone else runs into these issues.

As far as I could tell, the replaced buttons appeared to work. HOWEVER, the remote now seemed to be "unprogrammed".I followed the LS400 remote programming procedure:

I bought a key fob on ebay for about $100 a couple years ago. I don't remember the exact details to get into programming mode but it was something similar mentioned above and I was able to program my key fob to my car. 99 ES 300
You probably just need to buy a new key fob or make sure you are doing the steps correctly.
