Default 1992 Es300

I have searched though about 40 or so posted and I found there seems to be and issue with this car and the transmission slipping. I'm about to buy a 1992 Lexus ES300 for $1500, but the only issue is the transmission slips out of gear, it is an auto. Does anyone have any thoughts on what this could be, do you think i will need a new tranmission or could it be something else? The car has about 120k on it. Any thoughts?

Now here is my biggest issue, I HAVE to drive the car about an hour home. I know this is a HUGE HUGE NO NO, but I really dont have much of a choice seeing as there is no other way to get it home. I'm not sure if it is a filter, fluid, or something else, for all I know the trans is completely gone (more than likely). What do you honestly think the chances are of me getting home with it? Like I said I know driving it is going to kill the tranmission, but I can get a new for $500 I just want to know if I can get it home?

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Yes, when the tranny is gone the first symptoms on the ES and the Camry is that it slips out of gear... this car needs a new tranny. You might be able to rebuild it... depending on how bad it is... but I can assure you... this is not a tranny fluid or filter issue...
