Tenths of a second never seems like much on paper until you race against someone. It makes all the difference in the world. Some people use a rule of thumb that .1 second equals 1 car length.

A .1th does equal around about a car lenth until you get going very, very fast.
Keep in mind, let's say you give yourself an extra 10bhp peak (i.e. ya added a really good intake). That's going to be about .1 of a second down a 1/4 mile on cars of our general weight (3200-3300lb curb weight).
Getting .2ths for free is huge.
Especially when you're talking audio and rims. If the average STOCK ES 300 is running 16.4 in the 1/4, the average stock ES with big chrome rims & subs is gunna run a 17s 1/4m at best.

Maybe we could slap a huge woofer in place of a spoiler, it horizontally and see how that big bass makes the car go.
There is a huge body kit deal at my track. Lots of people do this, and I overhear tons of the what-the-body-kit-will-do-for-my-aerodynamics-BS. It ends up being pure weight and a big drag and lots of drivers scratching their heads and complaining.

body kits are strictly for looks, thats why im going to be getting one, i want my car to look different, but i dont think that adding a body kit is gonna make my car faster by being more aerodynamic, yea it makes the car a lil more aerodynamic but it increases weight and overall does nothing for performance.

I think down here the reason for the body kits is also for looks, but too many start throwing in junk science at my track, and that is where the problem starts.
With any modifications you want to do, you have to stay on top of them.
Being in Mexico, there are a lot of modifications I can do for less $$$, but with some things like the tranny and valve modifications, only in the U.S. with IPT (only people I would trust to do that).
When I was still living in Miami, I actually was able to accomplish a lot with modifying my old BMW, too bad I cannot be much help on locating people there who can help with the Lexuses.

i wish i could find someone to work on my lexus that isnt gonna charge me up the ***, some of the mods i want for my car are like half price for other cars, but just because its a "lexus" they want to charge more, i refuse, lol. ill find some way to get what i need, somehow .

It's not because its a lexus. They'd charge the same thing for anything not "standard". It's no better for the v6 Camry guys. Parts are custom. The materials costs don't rise, the labor in building something does.
No competition keeps stuff out of whack on custom pieces.
Even for normally tuned engines, equivilant custom work is no more expencive.

I agree this is a great thread - we're hoping to get FAQs across all models this year (similar to what we now have in the 2IS forum) and this is one of the threads that will certainly be linked.
Thank you

Took almost 2 SECONDS off my car without my rims, spare, subs *box was over 125 lbs ALONE, and BARLEY FITS, took forever to remove* and then the jack, removed the front seats, rear seats (which i prolly wouldnt do again, dont weigh that much) when I first ran it was low 17's.. after the removal mid 15's..

I'll kiss your *** if you gained more than 7 horsepower peak from it. 15 is a huge bunch of BS. Keep it real guys... This isn't a turbo engine with a restrictive intake...
