trying to idle
I have 2000 ES300. Attimes it will not idle when iI start the negine. It seems to be hit or miss and temperature dependant.
The symptoms are similar to turning the engine off when I crank it. Often it will not idle above 250 revs, then once I'm driving it will start working fine.
I have no problems reported on the idiot lights......does anyone have any idea what this is, maybe bad sensor or valve.....and how much it will cost to fix, otherwise it is a great car
Thanks

This is a rather common occurrence we've been seeing in most of the Lexus ES and GS models. The problem is most likely that the throttle body connected from the air intake is dirty inside and needs to be cleaned up. This dirt throws off the air/fuel ratio and thus causes the rough/low idle characteristics.
If you are good with a wrench, you can fix the problem yourself by investing in a throttle body cleaner kit from the auto parts store, taking apart the throttle body system, and doing a generous cleaning of the TB. The other option is to take the car to a local mechanic you know, or at your friendly Lexus/Toyota dealership and ask for a throttle body check-up/diagnosis and cleaning. I brought my '01 ES to a Toyota dealership when I ran into that problem last year (see thread of my experience here), and they charged me only one hour's worth of labor. It was worth it

but try cleaning ur tb with a toothbrush and some carb clean. sometimes the tb has a ton of carbon build up.
while the whole throttle body is off and being cleaned, don't forget to clean the idle air control valve too, as this is most likely contributing to your idling problems.

Ditto. Clean the IAC valve.
You really should take the entire upper intake off & clean it by hand, along with it's associated devices in order of causing trouble - IAC/ISC, EGR, throttle plate. In your case, it's the ISC.
