I get my car tomorrow!!
Depending on what tools I use for each detail, it could be anywhere between an hour to 4 hours. I apply a coat of glaze and wax once every 2 weeks, and I also clean and condition the leather interior once every 2 weeks. I dust-clean the entire interior with my 3M microfiber cloth.

Thanks Dandybug BTW, I only have one car now, it's the '01. I traded in my '96 for the '01 a few years ago (click on this link for more info).

Let us know when you get your ES, and if you can, post up pics of your new ride. Please stick around this forum and use the "search" engine as well (it really makes learning about Lexus more fun)

Default Steering Problems

Hi,

I am new to Club Lexus and find it very interesting that others are so willing to share their knowledge of correcting issues on their vehicles.

I own a 93 ES 300 and it recently developed steering issues. It becomes difficult to turn the steering wheel at the 4 quarters of the clock (12 o'clock, 3 o'clock, 6 o'clock and 9 o'clock). In between these sticking spots, it steers normal. Any ideas?

Cool

Rene start by changing the power steering fluid. Good directions here
After that replace the powersteering belt, making sure to get the correct tension on it.
Finally grease the suspension points. Ball-joints, tie-rod ends & rack and pinion assembly.

Has any work been done on the car since before the problem cropped up?

Default Steering Problems

Thanks for your response.

No work has been done to the es300 prior to this issue, except motor mounts. It has 185,000 miles and so far this is the only real issue.

I replaced the fluid and power steering pump but it's no better. I have a power steering high pressure hose being installed and the pressure switch is on order.

I was hoping to hear if someone else has had the same issue and could steer me directly to the problem.

Cool

Overdrive is simply 4th gear. If it's ON then it shifts into fourth, if it's OFF 3rd is the farthest up it will shift.
I think you've got the wrong impression of what it does.

I've had a couple problems with my 99 ES. Had a problem with RPM's dipping so low car would shut off sometimes. After 2 years of trying, the dealer finally figured out it was the alternator.
Last week the throttle body had to be replaced. WHat an expensive part. Lexus charges $1000 just for the part. ALso, the paint doesn't seem to be as durable as the SC. Thinking about trading it in or repainting.

Motor mounts - which one(s) are the most common to fail?

I've got the upper strut mount problem, but took a hammer and tapped them down about 1/8 to 3/16" and no more rattling. A Lexus tech told me this would "get me by" until I could get new mounts installed.

Mine is a '98 w/ 74k.

My trunk lid stopped popping open. My remote does not open it or the button inside my car. All I hear is the beeping sound from my remote and a faint motor sound from when I push the button inside my car.

I haven't really looked into what the problem may be. I'm thinking it could be a fuse or something. I just got used to opening it manually with my key.
