Default 2017 fuel efficiency

I recently bought a 2017 CT200H with 30K miles. I have been driving very conservatively and almost always in eco mode. The graph on the dash tells me I am getting 35 mpg. That seems far off from the stated fuel efficiency of 40-43mpg. Any thoughts?

my first thoughts would be to check tire pressure and air filter.

tire pressure 38-40 and replace air filter

cold temps will also take a hit.

also if you've only driven a short while after resetting the meter or after getting gas, that's not accurate--you'd need to measure over a full tank of fuel to get a better idea.

If I drive conservatively, without too much effort, I found 40mpg is easily achieved. Normally I get 36 but just my driving habits.

Only exception is traffic conditions.. if I'm constantly speeding up to say 50mph then back to stop without an extended period of time at either speed...I'll never get 40+. My freeway drives are like thst often. Not city, not highway..but a constant in between will screw the mpg. If your driving patterns are similar this could play a part in that.

when i first got my first 2016 F Sport, i was getting 42mpg over several tanks. then my driving style started adjusting where i started thrashing on it, and it went down to about 38. then i started getting crankier and impatient on the road and eventually my CT gas mileage settled around 36.5 ish. i found our cars run about 1.5mpg generous indicated vs. measured. So if you read 36, you're actually getting 34.5 real world. still pretty good all things considered. I rented a new corolla and drove it the same way and would get about 25. same as a new camry.

So I can tell by your 36 you're just about pretty cranky or impatient like me LOL. if you're chill and super easy going, 38-40 is about the norm.

Full on highway, 45+ easy. in fact i got indicated 52.5 mpg on a road trip once doing all highway about 300 miles. and that's on chinese performance tires.
