Default 2017 CT 200h - Transmission/gear issue

Hello everyone,

I am not sure if there is a thread for this but I have a 2017 ct200h and only 39K miles and just recently when I try to shift gear from Park, the gear would not shift correctly and resulted in the engine shaking.
I am not sure if the is a known issue amongst the 2017 CT200h owners but I just wanted to know if anyone experience this or may have an idea what's going on.
Much appreciate your help.

Thanks.

Austin

At 39,000 miles and 3 years old you are still under the powertrain warranty. You should take it to a dealer.

You need the check your transmission fluid level. Luckily this hybrid has a very easy to check transmission. There is a fill bolt on the side and you pour Toyota WS automatic transmission fluid into it until if flows out then the transmission is full. Or remove the fill bolt and stick your finger in, if you cannot feel any fluid, it is too low.

Also check your engine oil.

A lot of times new hybrid owners are not familiar with normal hybrid operation noises/vibrations/behaviors so they often will misinterpret what they experience as a "problem." So we should not rush to any conclusions about "Taking it to a dealer" just yet if we haven't verified what he is experiencing is a problem. Extremely unlikely to have a problem on such a new car.

The engine "starting" would have zero to do with you putting the car in drive, so my guess is that it's possible the engine starting was just a coincidence as it needed to start just as you put your hand on the gear selector and moved it and perhaps the car had difficulty engaging the forward gear as you were parked on an incline, giving you the impression of a difficult "start."

The engine can "shake" a bit upon start up, particularly if you are not on perfectly level ground. That's just called the engine starting. Engines move or lurch the car forward when they start, especially in the particular hybrid setup we have, depending on the exact conditions at the time.
