Default Lexus RES+ remote starter: Do not buy this!

I've been meaning to post about this for a long time, but I keep forgetting.

If you are thinking about getting the official Lexus remote starter, especially the plus version (there's an RES and an RES+) which works with your phone and shows your car's location, please do not get the RES+ unit, or even the RES one. Go aftermarket. Here's why:

I've had the RES+ for a while, but decided to turn off the service ($65 a year) because it barely worked. I'd always get a server error or can't reach the car error. I found out the hard way that Lexus decided to stop supporting the system. They no longer handle the RES system or the billing for it. I couldn't cancel it. Instead, they only have a phone number to call.

I called this number and I was told no one there handles RES, that only Lexus does that. Well great, no one can do anything with it, not even handle billing. They billed me for next year.

Called Lexus customer service, and they investigated a bit. They were stumped. They couldn't figure out who you contact for your RES account. Each side turns you away. Eventually I called the number that shows up on the billing item on my credit card statement. Some place in CA that acts as a vendor for car systems like this. They didn't know anything and had no access to anyone's account, just like Lexus and the RES people said.

Lexus customer service told me the only thing I can do is call my credit card company and ask to have the charge declined. I did, it was, and no one came asking anything.

There is literally no support for this. No one to call. It's like it never existed. Except the site is still there...

I used to be a Delivery Specialist for a Lexus dealership. The best way to resolve this would be to visit your local dealership and ask to have a Delivery/Technology Specialist call the corporate dealer hotline. I dealt with them for a lot of our most complex issues and they should be able to fix the problem.

The customer service number doesn’t have as much knowledge from my experience. RES+ was a mess when it released and an even bigger mess now that it’s been replaced by Enform. For anyone else that is considering the RES+ service, I would strongly advise against it. Lexus basically abandoned the system and doesn’t offer any help for it.

Yeah you can always stop a charge by calling your cc company/bank and tell them its unwanted. Some bank/cc sites can even let you do that with a click of a mouse when you log in.
