Any reason $10-$20 from Amazon will not work?

Yup, some of the generic ones work fine... and some don't.
The Carista adapter is guaranteed to work with our app and is compatible with both Android and iOS. But we don't mind if you buy a generic adapter - if it works, that's a win for us, too, because you'll still buy our software

Just got mine. I missed the sale
Seemed easy to use. I changed a few settings. Drl was turned off. I'll see about the results tomorrow.
I did the open trunk with one short press. It worked. I ran the codes and cleared them.
After that it said the keys were not in range. I had the car running for all of this except when clearing the codes.
I redid the faults with acc on and the car not running. Then clears the codes again. It seemed fine. I still got the other codes which I will research.

Is it possible that Carista is not a big fat company with huge profits? Could they be a small company that believes in Lexus cars and produces valuable software and are trying to stay in business and supply jobs to a few people. Is it possible that our support of all their products benefits us more by keeping them in business, continually improving the software. Or is saving ourselves $20 all that we care about...
I don't know. I'm sure there's more possibilities.

Not sure if that was in reference to my statement about missing the sale or not.
But in case it was...
It's not a big deal that I missed it and have no issues with it. They posted about he sale and I waited to gather more information about the product. I am a new 3 week owner of a 08 LS460l and trying to read through all these wonderful posts about content I am interested in.
I ordered it and wanted to report how easy and great it worked.
I really enjoyed not having to go to the dealer to make a few simple setting changes.

I bought the adapter because the price difference wasn't worth the time I would have spent figuring out if a particular generic one would work with the Carista software.
So far, so good. It works well and I've changed a few settings.
