Default ** UPDATE ** Wood Steering Wheel Group Buy

Ok, for those of you NOT familiar with this group buy, please read the following thread IN ITS ENTIRETY!

https://www.clublexus.com/forums/sho...threadid=46202

I don’t want to see any questions about price, which cars it goes on, etc., etc…all the info in there so READ before you ask…PLEASE...

+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=

Ok, now onto the update….My wheel is done and it is IN TRANSIT. This means I don’t have it in my hands just yet but I should have it by this weekend. I will write a review ASAP so look for it in the LOBBY.

What I do have are some pictures that A.S. snapped. Sort of a preview I guess you can call it…

Now let me update you guys on one important thing…turnaround time. My wheel took a week longer than normal because I specified a SATIN finish instead of the regular HIGH GLOSS finish. This is because the wood in my ’92 SC400 is satin and NOT high gloss like in my ’01 GS430.

I ***HIGHLY*** recommend you send them a sample of your wood so that they can color match it and match the finish (as close as possible)….

Anyways, it took longer because my wheel was the very first satin finish wheel they have done. They had to do some researching to get a satin finish they were happy with. I also ordered the Burl PGP so that took a extra couple of days.

Now they told me that they need a full two weeks to just have the wheels done…this is for a standard wheel meaning straight cut wood, NO Burl PGP, standard color leathers, standard HIGH GLOSS finish (though now I think the satin finish will take the same amount of time.) So if you order slant/slash cut wood or a custom color leather or a custom stain color or Burl PGP, except a longer turn around time. They informed me that people should figure 3-4 weeks before you get it back from the day you shipped it out.

This may cause some people to rethink the loaner program but in all honesty, I hope not! We don’t have enough wheels as it is and the logistics behind the loaner program will delay your order even more (since you have to wait for me or Hermosa to send you a wheel and the wheel has to be available!) So please, if you have alternative transportation for 2-4 weeks, please use it!

Now I have a list of about 20 people who are in this group buy, I expect every single of one of you to keep your end of the bargain and put in an order...this deal was a LOT of work to put together on both my end and American Stitches end....don't make us start taking non-refundable deposits to join in on group buys...

Ok, now onto the photos….

I know most of you were concerned with the sizing of the wood...I let A.S. know that so they are well aware of the situation. As you can see, on the 4-spoke, the wood sizing looks PERFECT IMO.

I am assuming the 3-spoke will turn out just as well...

This is my '92 SC400 wheel done by A.S. compared to a Lexus Factory/OEM '99 LS400 wheel (same 4-spoke style basically)...looks damn good to me!

Looks great Manaray, and yes of course I'm still in!

Is your airbag tan or that off brown/tope color? Mine is the latter and the picture looks like something lighter (I have a '93 SC400).

Also, I see you don't live far from me - do you know of a junkyard that I can get a spare wheel from without spending too much? I have to drive my car.

Lastly, I posted this elsewhere and didn't get a good response - my airbag cover is looking a bit worn (color is faded/rubbed-off a little) - any spray you know of to make it look like new (OEM color)?

Many Thanks,
Ryan

Sorry, don't mean to sound ignorant but what is Burl PGP? I like how your wheel looks.. Do you know the color of the wood they used on your SC wheel? It looks like a perfect match for the wood in mine..

Default Shifter

I'm in on the group wood and leather wheel buy...I was wondering, along that same vein, if anyone has considered trying to change out their old worn leather shifter for a wood and leather shifter, and if American Stitches would do that..I know they recover the leather, but would like it to match my new wheel...any thoughts? Burl wood print vs real burlwood. Which on my LS wheel it looks like its only burlwood on the side that faces the driver and the back looks like walnut.
