New Product RR-Racing ISF ECU Tune.... FINALLY!!!
#1563
Just gutted the primaries - exhaust note got a little louder and I felt a very slight loss in low-midrange power. The upper range feels very strong now, I am bumping in to the rev limiter regularly as I get accustomed to how quickly the revs rise.
Worthwhile mod if you have the tune - feels like a got a big bump in power up high.

I grew up with the smell both from street cars and from dirt track racing. I notice it. I especially noticed it when I pulled up next to a catless 370Z in the parking lot. The guy was sitting there idling for no apparent reason at all. I went to get my 10 month old out of the car and couldn't believe how bad it smelled. I'm not a fan of running catless for a 1% hp gain when hi-flow cats are available to make sure I'm not making someone else sick.

I would be surprised if this is the case. I haven't seen anyone on this site claiming large power gains just by removing the secondary cats, and many have. Gutting the primaries or installing headers removes the largest flow inhibitor in the entire exhaust system.

^^^^But gutting the stock primaries leaves that large open chamber. That can't be good for flow. I've seen posts of folks gutting their primaries, but really nothing so far showing any large HP gains. And yes, I know how you feel about Dynos. But, as I said above, removing the secondaries is, IMHO, a much better (certainly neater) option than gutting the primaries.

Agreed, it shouldn't be good for flow, but I've spent enough time with smoke trails watching what air does to know it's never as intuitive as we'd like. The thing I've seen is gutted cats vs. headers being a driver's race. I haven't seen secondary elimination a driver's race against headers, or everybody would have bought those crazy loud ISS setups years ago.

Tune/PPE headers.
Looking to buy PPE headers and the tune. I noticed that when going to RR Racings website, and choosing the handheld OBD tune and adding the PPE headers, there is no option to clarify if your car has an aftermarket exhaust or not. Is this not important? Is this taken care of when the files are sent via email?
Also I will be doing the work myself of installing the headers and a new starter while I am there (since the my current starter is dead). Does anyone that has installed headers, (either a DIY'er or a Professional) have any tips? I know there are a variety of people out there that say headers can be done in 4-5 hours and some quote 8-9. Just looking for some good tips. What is probably the hardest part of the job? Dropping the subframe? Removing the stock headers? Installing new headers?
Also I will be installing CATS after the header...Not going to modify my current Joe Z exhaust. Just wondering if JoeZ would sell an intermediate pipe/cat setup that is prewelded and would just slide right into my current exhaust setup? I tried PM Joe Z but his PM box is full.

I'll be doing this soon myself. It'll hurt to have to modify the JoeZ but it MUST be done. The smell is killer
