Local Mechanic with access to lift?
Im in the North OC/Fullerton/Anaheim area, I need the main lower control arms done, the others seem to be fine. Mechanic wants roughly 1100 for the job, of course that's only 2 parts in which they make money on at 300 a piece. We all know I can source all 8 of them from Rock auto at a decent price but I understand the mechanics need to make their money as well so they up the price of the part. And I dont want to pay 1100 for one arm, I would rather if its on the lift and its apart, lets do it all and be pro-active, but with the price of the parts, its too much. Shopped it around and of course most shops wont use your parts and they blame it on not being able to warranty the parts, etc. Lets face it, at 136k I am not interested in a warranty, I need it done for a reasonable price. Anybody got a mechanic who might work this issue? I understand we all need to make money and I am fine paying a labor cost for the job, but no way am I paying for arms at 300 a piece when I can source them for like 70...I got a few guys that do some driveway work and swear they could handle it, but Im a little weary of that. Swapping out bushings is cool with me too but I figure thats a hassle and not much savings there..

Thanks again, I called Jim and as nice as he was, he recommended OEM on the 460 and wouldn't suggest going with aftermarket namely Rock Auto. And thats what he would do, and nothing else. I will call Duncan in a bit and see where they stand. Thanks again!

Doing the lower control arms isn't that hard if your car is not rusty. I changed all 8 by myself. Depending on your year, it might be be tricky since they changed the spindle design later on. The original design was terrible and that was holding me up from finishing the job. You had to press in your own lower ball joint and that was no fun.
