Re: Police Activity Near Pentland Hills Residence Hall
Last night (06/10/11) at about 7:30pm UCPD dispatch received a call from a staff member reporting that two subjects walked into the Pentland Hills office and one of them was carrying what appeared to be a rifle. The subject picked up some paperwork and walked out of the office. UCPD responded immediately and began to search the area for the subjects.
Within minutes, an officer observed a subject driving west on Linden St. with a description similar to that of the subject who was seen with the rifle. Officers conducted a high risk traffic stop on the vehicle and detained the driver who was found in possession of a rifle pellet gun.
An emergency text alert was sent out to the campus during this incident.
Through further investigation, the driver who was detained was determined not to be the subject who was seen in the Pentland Hills office. That person was a resident who was identified and found to have been carrying an umbrella at the time that was mistaken as being a rifle. There was no connection between these two subjects. The driver was a UCR student who was released.

How the hell do you get an umbrella confused with a rifle?
