Anyone ever drive up to Mammoth?
Hi everyone. I was just wondering if anyone here knows how bad (road conditions, etc) is the drive up to Mammoth Mountain? I'm thinking of taking my car next month, but it might not be a good idea. I drive a 99 gs300, dropped, with 19s and stretched tires. Here's a picture to give you guys a reference of how low my car sits. Thanks

I drove my Acura Integra GSR to Mammoth 2 years ago. I did not even have a problem at all. There was even some snow on the road. You should be fun just dont speed. I didn't even use chains. After Mammoth I went to Lake Tahoe for a few more days. It snowed alot while I was there. I still didnt use chains.
here are some pics.
This is after I had alittle fun in Lake Tahoe's local neigborhoods. With 1 foot of fresh powder and no chains.

I went to Big Bear one time with my 98 GS400. It was snowing a bit and i have 2 passengers. Once i got up there...it started to snow and i was trying to go down the hill and i cant get traction. I went down that hill in REVERSE coz i cant even make a U turn coz of no traction. I will never take my GS in snow again.

All depends on the weather and road conditions. If there's no snow and roads are clear you'll be fine. But if there's snow I'd avoid it... sadly it's a dry season with la nina. And FWD cars are easier to handle in the rain/snow then RWD. 4WD is the best though... hence my land cruiser

Mammoth is an easy, non-curvy road. Even next month I don't think you'll see much snow.
But like someone else mentioned, when I go on road trips renting a car will give you piece of mind.
Try Fox Rental Car next to John Wayne.

for the OP, I would rent a car less headache and more room if you get an SUV.

Like others have said, it all depends on the weather. I had a lowered s4 a few years ago that I took up during a really bad storm and got stuck going into a drive way. Had to be pulled out by a suv.
