PLASMA or LCD?
#2
I have a 61" HD DLP. Its what my budget allowed for 3 years ago, at that time a plasma in this size was at $10K+ and theres no way I watch enough TV to justify spending so much money on one. One thing I dont like about my parents plasma is that you almost have to be directly in front of it to get the picture quality. But when you are, the quality is better, not leaps and bounds better, but definitely a little better.

Depends on what you are going to be using the tv for most of the time. As well as budget. LCD will win hands down over plasmas in the less than 37 inch range. Plasma will give you a brighter picture, but plasmas have a glare so that might be annoying in a bright room. Price wise, Plasmas are cheaper the larger you go, LCDs are cheaper in the lower end.
I actually prefer DLP. The picture is so smooth and can be watched in well lit rooms unlike the old projection tvs of yore. They are usually much cheaper than plasma OR LCD, and can be had in 1080P as well. I've got a Samsung and absolutely love it. Plus, if in a few years my picture starts to go a bit dim, I can always buy a new bulb for it and have a brand new tv again. Can't really do that with plasmas or LCD (cost effectively at least, or easily)
Definitely check out the DLP's if you're out shopping for a TV.

Also if you've got the room, I've also got a DLP Projector from Infocus, and that thing is beautiful to watch movies on. You must watch them in a near dark or perfectly dark room though. Perfect if you are thinking of a media room or basement project. I don't use it quite as much as I used to as I love a pure HD picture(my projector is like 3 years old and not FULL HD.)
But there is nothing like watching a movie with surround sound on a 110" Widescreen.
The Projector route will usually land you in the same range as 42" - 60" DLP TV for a decent projector and screen. But definitely has more limited range in terms of use.

ok, i had to reply to this comment. not all plasmas are the same. when i was looking for a tv, i looked everywhere for a good plasma or lcd, the better picture by far was plasma. besides rear projection screens are the worse, they dim when view in an angle other than directly in front. lately they have improved. i have owned this great plama for 3 years and its been great. i save the smaller lcd monitors fo my car where they belong. 61'' plasma on the way.
take a pic of your big screen from a 25-30 degree angle and see what happends.

Interesting as Plasmas are known for good their good viewing angle. Mine can be side from practially the side. DLP's just do not offer the same picture clarity and viewing angle. I checked them all ou 2 months because I wanted a large screen and they are affordable compared to LCD and Plasma screen. Plasmas do wear out over time (around 20 years of average use I believe) but I never keep TV's longer than 5 years anyhow.
