Do you leave your car running when refueling?
Boat fires/explosions happen all the time, way more than cars at gas stations. Tons of movies and books about exploding boats haha.
This. ALWAYS use your blower as you're rolling into a marina approaching the fuel. ALWAYS use the blower for several minutes before starting an inboard. It's unlikely to blow but this is something I'd never skip, ever. That or just open the engine cover (easy to do, lift the sunpad up) when I refuel.
I had that ingraned into my soul lol at like age 5-6, I remember my stepdad STILL always emphasizing it. It was mildly amusing when we took delivery the guy was telling me stuff I 100% knew (like use the blower), but of course they had to do their due diligence.
It's also not a bad idea to run the blower when you're trolling, I do that most times as well. Hell I'll leave it on for hours sometimes and forget.
Inboards aren't idiot proof, for sure.
The motor is usually under a hooded cover and requires starting the blower motor to exhaust all gas vapors before starting engine(not sure how they do it on the newest boats).
If this step is skipped you can get a fire very easy if you are lucky or a BOOM as worse case.

A long-time rule in marine-refueling is to wait at least five minutes after a fill-up to start the engine....depending on how much wind you have and/or how efficient the blowers are. Boats can, and sometimes do, blow up if that rule is violated.
And a long time rule, in fact the law is that you should have your car engine off while you’re refueling.
What's the reasoning of leaving t he engine on... to save .5 seconds of time from starting the car up again? keeping the cabin warm / cold? even the latter reason doesn't justify what amounts to idling the car. just seems wasteful to me.

I'll waste all the fuel I want while refueling. BTW it's not an amount even worth mentioning.
