Hello, R129...The car I didn't know I needed
They have a vintage parts catalog but like Striker said, the parts have to be produced a la carte and it’s very expensive. They don’t produce those parts anymore and just stock them. So if you need a wiring harness, you have to have one made and it’s very expensive. It’s about a $13,000 job on a car that’s worth $30k or so.

Many many people who own these cars say so.

America is the place were impossible is possible....
We should together looks up these parts? Then we should a good old fashioned Club Lexus epic debate

This is a well understood and discussed issue in the SL circles, all of those people are able to look up parts. These are really low volume cars that are 30 years old, aftermarket manufacturers just don’t manufacture whole wiring harnesses for them and leave them lying around. It’s about $9,000 for Mercedes to manufacture the harness, and then the labor and all involved to do the job which is a lot, dash has to be removed, etc. There are aftermarket companies that make the harnesses at a cost of $3,000 or so, but you’re still looking at $7,000 or so for the job, and who knows how that harness will do over time. You can buy used harnesses but that just buys time, because the original issue still exists and the labor to do the job is so much that you don’t want to have to do it twice.
just google “SL600 wiring harness” and lots comes up.

A 10,000 mile '02 Silver Arrow V12 reached a high bid of $70,000 today on BaT. It failed to meet its reserve.
They might be high maintenance but those 12 cylinders do bring the money at present.
The bad wiring harness issues reportedly ended with the 1995 models. Newer ones are not so affected.

That's only for the engine, if you need to replace the whole car good luck lol!

Oh that's nothing, one dealer is selling an admittedly perfect showroom new 600 Silver Arrow for $200k. It has languished for a lonnnng time.
Still no call yet on the Silver Arrow 500 about to go up for sale in Chattanooga, they're still getting it ready.

All the SL600 owners aren’t wrong about this lol
As for prices, 1995 600 with 58,000 miles, $37,000:

95 600, $9,800

another 95, $23,000

Like I said, it’s highly variable and in order to bring big money it needs to be somewhere like BAT or C&B and it has to be an excellent specimen, a late model etc.
Thanks
I love how mine looks especially when clean. Considering dropping ONLY the front as I like how the rear sits. Decisions decisions.
Thank you. And truthfully, the dealership lied about it coming with 'new' Michelin tires. They were so old and dry rotted cracking that when I sent them pictures they agreed to cover the cost of a new set of tires. They would not cover the entire price of Michelins, so I went some pretty sweet Nittos and they ride so damn good I'm happy with my purchase. The car tracks much nicer now and does not feel anywhere as "all over the road" as when I first drove it with the old Michelins. Hit 110 MPH on a Mexican road here in Texas with the Nittos, and I must say, feels as solid as what I imagine a 7.62x54r round might feel like out of a Mosin.
Will keep posted with progress photos.
In my opinion, regular maintenance is the same as any other car. Change oil, brakes, tires, clean drain tubes, monitor belts/hoses/pullies for noises etc. Where the maintenance becomes an nightmare is when things get neglected because so many things work in tandem and when it is time for one thing to bust, another thing is on its way there too. This actually happened to me. I got a water pump done. Picked up and then 500 miles later, needed front timing cover gaskets, alternator mounting bracket gasket, spark plug boots(or something like that I forget the name). Picked up and then the very next day needed the entire electrical system rebooted because all audio was gone and NAV screen did not want to display anything. BUT WAIT...THERES MORE...picked up and about another 500 miles later....needed the transmission pan gasket/filter/oring because it was leaking like a...like a...something that leaks a lot. This car though had not been maintained as well as thought, and sat for most of its like. Cars need to move to survive. If they sit still they dry, rot, leak, and die.
Thank you It is a nice photo I will recreate with my SONY sometime. This one was on a whim with my S22 Ultra.
Thank you!. They're great you should. But stick with a V8.
Mine does not as it is a 2000 MY. I believe the biodegradable loom was ditched after 1994 models.
Can you imagine needed an entire loom lol HELL NO.
You could me a used V12 Merc
It is pretty timeless. Was at a light a moment ago and this dude in a brand new Dodge Charger Scat Pack was just looking back at it like he had always wanted one when he was younger. We nodded at each other in mutual respect for the clean rides.
Low miles bring the money with this cars. Simple as that. I'm trying to hit a high mile record but who knows. I change my mind a lot.
I've only seen 2 others in the city I live in, and 1 in the city I'm from. Quite rare. Thank you.

Jealous. You may or may not know that I am in the market for one of these, too. Now that car prices have come down I may start looking more seriously.
It's a beautiful car and I 100000000000% get why you like it, and how you feel about it.
There was a Silver Arrow (that's what I'd like but I'm not paying an obscene amount for it) that popped up here in town but it drove like crap, none of the "precision" you speak of. It felt loose, did not ride and track like an SL should. The top worked but it was janky, the replacement. The engine and transmission however were perfecttttttt. The starter sound and especially exhaust note when I nailed it stirred my soul. Everything about it does, the looks, the angles, the old school Mercedes gauges. I might have bought it but someone else wanted it and I wasn't going into a bidding war and it wasn't in overall great condition, drive wise. It looked amazing though. I will say the buttons and stuff inside aren't as high quality as in high end Lexus models. The wood isn't either.
Like I said now that car prices have gone down it might be sooner rather than later that I find myself one and can be done with it once and for all.
Congrats, please keep us updated. Feel free to shoot me a PM, or I may shoot you one. Lovvvvvvve the car.
