It was the longest serving Toyota nameplate. Expensive imported cars don’t need huge sales numbers

interesting thing about tesla is they've jacked up prices, what, 20-30% in the last couple of year!? so as they work to lower costs and increase supply, they have the ace in the hold of lowering prices.

tesla's competitors (including mainstream brands like ford, hyundai, kia, gm, etc) just seem incapable of delivering vehicles in any significant numbers.
People are slowing their spending. Inflation. High gas prices. Rising interest rates. War in Ukraine. Talks of nuclear war (can you believe that?) Natural gas price hikes. Pipelines sabotage Tesla supercharging price hikes. More competitive competition. Economy is gonna move into a recession any moment now. Now is NOT the time to buy an expensive car.

Its inevitable Tesla would slow as their products are priced high. And prices have increased. Toyota is down as well. So are their hybrids as they cost more than their cars products. Camry, Prius, Corolla, ES, IS all up this month..all sedans

Their biggest sellers are the 3 and Y. So it cant just be the price of the vehicles that's affecting demand. Wait times are supposedly down as well.

The 3 and Y are actually Tesla's two least-expensive models, which should stimulate demand.

What about company profit? So there has been a long-term shortage of inventory and new cars to sell. But they have all been selling everything at sticker or above, putting the burden on the public. How has that impacted the manufacturer's bottom line? I think that answer is very important. Why? Because there is a good chance they have been raking it in. Oil companies have a similar model where it's claimed there is a shortage (of gas), but nothing is done to alleviate it.

You are correct. Wait times appear to be down. A performance 3 or Y estimated delivery now says Oct-Nov 2022, suggesting that if you order now, you may even get it this month. Earlier this year, that timeline was about 3 months out at the earliest.

high dealer sales prices help the dealer, not the manufacturer.

perhaps the wait times have come down now only because of some waning demand, but also because texas gigafactory is now cranking out cars.

The performance 3/Y models have always had much shorter lead times over the last couple of years or so than the standard models. When there are limits on the number of vehicles that can be built and demand outpaces supply it makes sense to prioritize the models that drive larger revenue and margin. It’s been the same with other in-demand vehicles. Ford for example has prioritized builds so more higher trim Broncos and F150 Lightnings were built than lower spec models for the same reason.

Losing a nameplate is probably not really a concern, vs profits. Besides, it's now available to return as an EV model.

Mods: Is the "Sticky" option broke?

October 3, 2022 , Camden, N.J. -

SUBARU OF AMERICA, INC. SEPTEMBER SALES UP 8.6 PERCENT

  • Best month ever for Crosstrek
Subaru of America, Inc. (SOA) today reported 45,658 vehicle sales for September 2022, an 8.6 percent increase compared with September 2021 (42,054). The automaker also reported year-to-date sales of 401,115, a 13.3 percent decrease compared with the same period in 2021. Subaru continues to face inventory challenges as the result of microchip and supply chain issues affecting automakers across the globe.

“When customers choose a Subaru vehicle, they are not only buying one of the safest, most reliable vehicles on the market, but they’re aligning themselves with a brand that tries to make the world a better place because it’s the right thing to do,” said Thomas J. Doll, President and CEO, Subaru of America, Inc. “The final quarter of the year is our busiest when it comes to giving back through our Subaru Love Promise initiatives. From Subaru Loves Pets™ Month in October and National Make A Dogs Day on October 22 to the 2022 Subaru Share the Love® Event kicking off in November, our retailers are with us every step of the way showcasing that Subaru is More Than a Car Company.”

In September, Crosstrek was the top performer by volume and achieved its best month ever, with 16,092 (surpassing record set in August 2019 with 15,860) sales and a 35.6 percent increase compared with the same period in 2021. The Outback saw a 20 percent increase compared to September 2021, while the Ascent increased by 18 percent. Year to date, the Crosstrek posted a 14.2 percent increase, while the Ascent SUV posted an increase of 6.9 percent compared to the same period in 2021.

“The Subaru Crosstrek had its best-ever month, pointing to car buyer preference for vehicles that are as safe as they are fun to drive,” said Jeff Walters, Senior Vice President of Sales. “As supply chain challenges continue to affect the automotive industry, we are focused on meeting the high demand for Subaru vehicles and delivering a great experience to our customers.”

    • BMW Sets New Quarterly Benchmarks for Sales of Battery Electric and Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicles.
      • MINI Brand Sales Increase 11.4% vs Q3 2021.

Woodcliff Lake, NJ – October 3, 2022… BMW of North America today reported Q3 2022 sales results for the BMW and MINI brands in the U.S.

BMW Brand
In the third quarter of 2022, BMW brand sales in the U.S. totaled 78,031 vehicles, a 3.2% increase from the 75,619 vehicles sold in the third quarter of 2021.

Increased availability of the battery electric BMW iX Sports Activity Vehicle and BMW i4 Gran Coupe fueled sales growth in all three months of the third quarter. As a result, the company also set new quarterly benchmarks for both battery electric (4,337) and plug-in hybrid electric deliveries (10,858 BEV & PHEV combined). BMW’s battery electric lineup will expand in the fourth quarter as the first-ever fully electric BMW i7 Sedan begins arriving at U.S. dealerships.

“The customer demand and enthusiasm for BMW’s electric vehicles has been there from the start,” said Sebastian Mackensen, President and CEO, BMW of North America. “With the support of our dealer partners, we expect this momentum to accelerate through the fourth quarter, resulting in a strong finish to the year.”

BMW Sports Activity Vehicles continue to be an important part of the company’s sales success in the U.S., accounting for over 62% of sales year-to-date. In total, sales of Sports Activity Vehicles are up 16.6% through the first three quarters of the year. An all-new addition to the line-up, the hybrid-electric BMW XM, was unveiled at the end of September and will begin arriving in showrooms early next year.

MINI Brand
MINI brand sales in the U.S. totaled 7,178 vehicles in the third quarter of 2022, an increase of 11.4% vs the 6,445 vehicles sold in the third quarter of 2021.
