Sept/3rd Quarter 2022 Sales Thread
i don't think competition is much of an issue for tesla. i think it's slowing global demand for vehicles, plus tesla's are not exactly cheap vehicles now. having said that, tesla said their issue was shipping logistics, not lack of demand.
interesting thing about tesla is they've jacked up prices, what, 20-30% in the last couple of year!? so as they work to lower costs and increase supply, they have the ace in the hold of lowering prices.
tesla's competitors (including mainstream brands like ford, hyundai, kia, gm, etc) just seem incapable of delivering vehicles in any significant numbers.

Its inevitable Tesla would slow as their products are priced high. And prices have increased. Toyota is down as well. So are their hybrids as they cost more than their cars products. Camry, Prius, Corolla, ES, IS all up this month..all sedans

What about company profit? So there has been a long-term shortage of inventory and new cars to sell. But they have all been selling everything at sticker or above, putting the burden on the public. How has that impacted the manufacturer's bottom line? I think that answer is very important. Why? Because there is a good chance they have been raking it in. Oil companies have a similar model where it's claimed there is a shortage (of gas), but nothing is done to alleviate it.
You are correct. Wait times appear to be down. A performance 3 or Y estimated delivery now says Oct-Nov 2022, suggesting that if you order now, you may even get it this month. Earlier this year, that timeline was about 3 months out at the earliest.

The performance 3/Y models have always had much shorter lead times over the last couple of years or so than the standard models. When there are limits on the number of vehicles that can be built and demand outpaces supply it makes sense to prioritize the models that drive larger revenue and margin. It’s been the same with other in-demand vehicles. Ford for example has prioritized builds so more higher trim Broncos and F150 Lightnings were built than lower spec models for the same reason.

Woodcliff Lake, NJ – October 3, 2022… BMW of North America today reported Q3 2022 sales results for the BMW and MINI brands in the U.S.
BMW Brand
In the third quarter of 2022, BMW brand sales in the U.S. totaled 78,031 vehicles, a 3.2% increase from the 75,619 vehicles sold in the third quarter of 2021.
Increased availability of the battery electric BMW iX Sports Activity Vehicle and BMW i4 Gran Coupe fueled sales growth in all three months of the third quarter. As a result, the company also set new quarterly benchmarks for both battery electric (4,337) and plug-in hybrid electric deliveries (10,858 BEV & PHEV combined). BMW’s battery electric lineup will expand in the fourth quarter as the first-ever fully electric BMW i7 Sedan begins arriving at U.S. dealerships.
“The customer demand and enthusiasm for BMW’s electric vehicles has been there from the start,” said Sebastian Mackensen, President and CEO, BMW of North America. “With the support of our dealer partners, we expect this momentum to accelerate through the fourth quarter, resulting in a strong finish to the year.”
BMW Sports Activity Vehicles continue to be an important part of the company’s sales success in the U.S., accounting for over 62% of sales year-to-date. In total, sales of Sports Activity Vehicles are up 16.6% through the first three quarters of the year. An all-new addition to the line-up, the hybrid-electric BMW XM, was unveiled at the end of September and will begin arriving in showrooms early next year.
MINI Brand
MINI brand sales in the U.S. totaled 7,178 vehicles in the third quarter of 2022, an increase of 11.4% vs the 6,445 vehicles sold in the third quarter of 2021.
