A shame, too, because this car had, as standard equipment, numerous safety items in the late 40s that were not widely used until decades later.
Yes, it featured a rear air-cooled boxer-engine, safety glass, three headlights (where allowed by law), a center-swiveling headlight that moved with steering wheel, padded dashboard, disc brakes, seat belts, an area where the front passenger could crouch down if a collision was imminent, an energy-absorbing steering column, perimeter frame, roll bar integrated into the roof, although not all of the production vehicles got the disc brakes. But, it is obvious that if more cars had been designed like this back then, a lot of deaths and injuries could have been prevented.
In addition to simply not having enough capital for the project, Preston Tucker was also the target of a major smear-campaign from the major auto manufacturers, some Members of Congress, and Drew Pearson, a well-known investigative journalist at the time.
Great movie but it made it look like he threw the car together with junk parts and I never believed that.
Is OP or someone gonna put up another car I hope.
