Car insurance
People cancel or change their policies for all kinds of reasons. Money is only one of them. In fact, GEICO with its Gecko lizard, talking-camel, cave-men, and dollar-bill stacks, Progressive with perky Flo in her white suit, and Allstate with the "Good Hands" image all have had remarkably strong and effective ads.

I guarantee 95% of cancellations are because of money.

The difference for me was $1000. I went from TD Insurance to Costco. The outgoing company does not need an explanation of why I left. They just need to know I am leaving. For them, there is no why, there just is.

I remember one time. The library in Toronto sent me a survey about improvements to the central library or some branch. They gave this long list of choices what I’d like to see improved. So I chose the option of landscape, trees and flower beds. Just to be difficult. Like they had all these other options, better hours, more staff, more self check out….but some idiot decided that trees and flower beds should be on the list. There was on only one choice to pick to.
Maybe I should have told the lady on the phone at TD some really ridiculous reason….like the “absence of TD bank machines on the beach” or something … “so I am cancelling the insurance… even though I don’t have a bank account with you”
something stupid and bewildering

Good for cars, but in my experience shockingly high for homeowners insurance. I'm in the real estate business and I see lots of homeowners policies and I am consistently shocked by how high USAA is. Its very hard to convince clients that they should shop it too because they believe so strongly in USAA.
Worst one I ever saw was a $900 condo policy when that condo should have been $350 or so.

I think since you are in Maryland/DC area, a lot of military in that part of the country and a lot of storm damage to contend with. So it makes sense USAA would not fair as well as a carrier with less military dependence. Here in San Diego, by far the cheapest for me is USAA and Amica which are also the two highest rated in the country. However, Amica limits what they insure.
We should be lucky we are not in Florida where they are paying $4k-$10k per year just in homeowners insurance. But yeah they have no state income tax.

I am with USAA and my rates have gone down the past few years. I pay roughly $350 per month for two cars with $1 million liability, $2 million umbrella, and homeowners insurance.

also would not switch from Tier 1 insurance to Tier 3 to save pennys.
The plural of penny is "pennies", BTW.
