The thought of an old lady driving a 1,000 hp Plaid is terrifying. It truly is.

 

It's really not though because EV'S power is so controllable. I can do quick manuvers way easier and safer than my IS350 for example that is nowhere near as quick or powerful. The moment you start easing off the gas the electric motors start to slow you down. Although people do say the Plaids brakes feel inadequate. Let's see how many Plaid drivers end up in accidents, that will be the ultimate tell

 

Ehhhh, I gotta disagree. Look at the number of elderly people who mistake the gas for the brake and go crashing into stripmalls. Imagine the throttle pinned in a Plaid with a terrified driver thinking they are hitting the brakes with all their might...

Haha, but I think insurance companies should seriously increase rates with age and cars like that to discourage their use.

Its like having a kid, nobody would say this car is appropriate for a 16 year old. Nor is it appropriate for an 86 year old.

 

Paul Newman raced until he was 80 something. Not everyone ages the same.

 

showing an exception doesn't prove anything. There are kids that are racing cars at 16 which I'm sure are better drivers than some adults in their 30s. Doesn't mean it's okay for any 16 year old to have a fast car.

 

LOL yeah, we had to pull the keys from my dad when he hit his 80's due to all the little accidents he was getting into. He still gripes about it, how we took away his freedoms. But I suspect most people that age would never want a Tesla, or figure out how it works

 

Like Blaze said, an exception proves nothing. When you get older your reaction times increase, you get confused more easily, your motor skills decline. Paul Newman worked on maintaining those skills and abilities so he could continue to race. Most people don't do that, they just drive,

 

So we agree not all 80 year olds are the same. My dad drives well and he is in his late 70s because he kept himself sharp. I think everyone should get tested when older but a lot of older people are doing much better with motor control these days.

 

How much power is too much? Give a number.

 

a model x plaid isn't 'appropriate' for anyone really... anyone utilizing 1000+hp on a public road is likely to be a menace except where no one else is around.

 

i can't imagine how anyone 80+ yrs old needs more than 200hp unless a vehicle is very heavy. yes, EVs are very heavy but 1000+hp is absurd. fun though!

 

In IL at age 75 you have to take the road test along with the normal vison test to renew your license. After age 78 (I think it is) you have to renew your license every year including the road test (it's every 4 years normally). I assume that other states have similar requirements?
