I'm way too paranoid about taking a trip like that knowing I may lose my pr. steering. Some people can't even get it to reset and their cars are sitting in the dealers lots for weeks. When I was a Volvo dealer mechanic especially in the summer cars would come in on the hook all the time filled with road trip baggage. Colorado attracts a lot of tourists. We were able to fix most and get them on their way for a fee but todays cars are another story. With the GCL they don't have all the fixes yet or any parts. A recipe for disaster. It's one thing knowing these cars are riddled with problems and taking your chances, another thing knowing you already have a serious problem and taking a trip anywhere let alone 5,000 miles.

Yeah 5,000 miles is a little different than a 300 mile each way trip lol
I think (and remember, I am 100% in the same situation) there is some frustration that this is a vehicle you never wanted because of its propensity to be problematic at play here too. I totally get that, I feel the same way. It falls to me to keep dealing with a car that has a ton of problems when it was a car I knew better than to buy in the first place. When the new Pacifica started having the same front suspension clunking the old one did at 7,500 miles my first comment to my wife was "Can we buy a real car next time?"
Denver to Oklahoma to visit relatives. Then on to Memphis to eat some barbecue and stay at a friends mom's house. Then on to the Tampa beaches to meet up with some snowbird friends. Over to the east coast to see my brother in Ft Lauderdale and up to Jupiter to stay at my sisters. Then up to St Augustine to stay at my brother in laws house (my other sister passed away a couple years ago). Then to the Jacksonville airport for me to fly home alone. Laurie continuing on to Savannah to stay with her niece and then drive up to Dover Del. her home town to be with her 5 sisters and their families. Then the long haul back to Denver. 2 weeks for me and 31/2 for her. we have done this a few times before with several different variations. Sometimes flying and renting cars in between.
To be fair, my LS460L did that to me also. It happens to all manufacturers with that type of system.
My LS 460 did it once and it scared the heck out of me. Still to this day, I am not sure why it happened. Luckily, I was on a back road and nobody was behind me. My car came to a screeching halt. 👎
I bet you can find people with Hyundais that have done this tough. Its not like it will happen to everybody, its very rare but the sensors can be tricked by lighting and changes in the road surface...its not just a Chrysler issue, its the technology itself. There are posts about it on the Mercedes boards too...and BMW...
Still only that one occurrence with the pr. steering. The new software update came out last week, I’m going for that tomorrow. A few people posted they got it. One has said it didn’t work since the problem came back the next day. Their software update could have been improperly applied who knows. Now I’m having second thoughts about going for it. Could do more harm than good considering my only one time failure. I will do it. I need the documentation and I’m a glutton for pain. Overall this has been our only problem with this car unless you include some radio and seat memory lapses. It is a pretty premium car for the money, but the MSRP has gone up twice since I bought in November. The interior is light years ahead of the previous JGC’s. The 2 row versions are out now.
