From a marketing standpoint, that move would be questionable, since the Aveo and Sonic were probably discontinued because of lack of interest, and/or having bad or no name-recognition. GM does this all the time - dump the name of a poor selling vehicle; Ford too. The Ford Five Hundred / Taurus is a perfect example.

The Five Hundred, however, was renamed the Taurus....except for the wagon version, which was the Freestyle.

I agree that the Trailblazer, even with that name, is selling extremely well(or as well as can be expected with supply-shortages)....I wasn't questioning whether people were actually buying it or not. And, in business, money and profits are usually the objectives. But, at least IMO, there also is such a thing as respect for a vehicle's history, and in not corrupting the nameplate. Ford respected that with the Bronco....and to a lesser extent with the Bronco Sport.

You've made your opinions on the sanctity of car names very clear. GM doesn't seem to share your view.

But on the flip side, just continuing the name Aveo or Spark, which has very little recognition or positive reputation, may not make sense. Which is why GM dropped those names in favor of a name with better recognition.

GM also dosen't have a very good recent history of marketing, although like I said, the Trailblazer is selling well despite the name.

I did not mention the Spark. I did mention the Sonic. The Sonic, when it was in Chevy's American market line-up, sold somewhat better than the Spark. The Spark was just too small for many Americans....and was awkwardly-styled.

Back to thread-topic lower vehicle prices, there seems to be some current easing in the price-markups, perhaps due to holiday-shopping for other things lessening demand for new vehicles. It will be interesting to see what happens after the holidays and into the new year.

Said Spark instead of Sonic - my mistake, but part of the reason GM doesn't want to continue the name - I don't know which is which, and I'm sure many have the same confusion.

I can't believe car companies are running year-end promotions - 0% / rebates - or even spending $$ on advertising during sporting events. Seems like a total waste in the current market where there's hardly inventory.

Auto companies are running 0% financing for 48, 60, or even 72 months for those who are approved. That's essentially free money for six years....which is going to be a real bargain if the Fed decides to bump up interest rates at least twice next year like rumor suggests.

Me.....for many reasons discussed earlier in other threads, I wouldn't even think of buying a vehicle I didn't (or couldn't) pay cash for and own outright the minute I drove it home, but that is not the case with millions of other buyers.

I like new stuff, but it does weigh you down to a certain extent.

Having STUFF that needs maintenance and care and to be paid for weighs you down. It creates stress and burden, requires an individual to continue to earn a certain amount of money to continue to pay for and purchase more stuff which in turn has to be cared for and maintained. There's something to be said for a simple life without a lot of stuff to worry about.

For instance, lets say I wanted to go away for a month...or to leave my career and do something entirely different which was much less financially lucrative, I can't do that because of all of this stuff.

The more you earn, the more you want to buy. The more you buy, the more you need to earn. It’s a vicious cycle. 😂

So you downsize and reduce some of that stuff. I guess everyone is different.
