We have some neighbors with a new Y and we were checking it out during trick or treating yesterday.
No interest in splurging for the Model X? Interestingly enough (and backed up by sales) I don't see too many doing family duty around here. People seem to be sticking to their ICE luxury SUVs when they need a third row for now.

EDIT: Wow the Model X is more expensive than I thought. That explains why they don't sell many compared to other 3 row SUVs.

While my SC400 was being painted I rented an electric Kia Niro for three weeks. It is a small SUV with a 350 mile range. Great little car. I had no issues with charging, even though I do not have a level 2 charger at my house. Public charging stations here in Southern California are common, and easy to access. Just a little odd compared to gas stations.

I like the Mach-e and need to look at one. My wife has a four-year-old VW Golf Alltrack, which is decent but requires maintenance. I may look into getting her a Mach-e or a VW id.4 car soon.

Too bad Lexus doesn't have an electric.

Look at the Rivian R1S. Probably won't be available for another year, but we're going to be picking one up.

On the Mach-E, I really like what Ford has done with it, much more impressive than VWs offerings so far

I’ve had mine since the end of May and had absolutely no issues. I did not want the Performance Pack, which is fitted with the 20s since I live in NJ and the roads are horrible. I have the standard 19” wheels, but I did test drive one with 20s. It doesn’t have the luxury ride and feel as my previous plug in Volvo, but is very sporty and soaks up bumps fairly well.
Being very particular, when it comes to build quality, this was a top priority in choosing my next vehicle. No creaks or rattles. Extremely quiet interior as well.
I had to get the optional ventilated leather seats which definitely lighten up the cabin and are much better than the standard vegan interior.

The Android automotive infotainment is very responsive, easy to use and ‘Hey google’ works flawlessly.

My only gripe is that Apple CarPlay has been further delayed until the spring.

I recommend a test drive. You might like it. I certainly did!

If there is a tax incentive passed, I am going to get my wife a Model Y long-range with 7 seats.
don't know if you saw news, but rest of the world is REALLY steamed at u.s. planned EV tax incetives that reward u.s. made vehicles and batteries.

back to Y, and 3, they are very well thought out to be as CHEAP as possible to make, while offering a load of 'features'. super impressive to many, especially given how 'stripped down' they are, with very cheap materials, and buyers willing to overlook road noise, poor or flinty handling, random fit and finish, and missing common features like apple carplay / android auto, cooled seats, 360 camera, etc. it's no wonder tesla can be very profitable, especially as they raise prices seemingly every month.

"volkswagen" means "people's car" and it seems tesla has stolen that marker... good for them!

back to the Mach-E, good that ford is at least being given quite a bit of praise, i don't know what kind of volume they're doing, but i understand they're also selling quite well in europe.

They're fine for kids sub 10-12 years of age. Zero cargo room which is fine for what we would use it for.

Mach E sells about 5000 per month how much of that is in Europe don't know. I think the Mach E is a great start for Ford.

not sure what that means exactly, but sounds like a cheap shot. my point is tesla has read the market well and is feeding it and can't make product fast enough. sign of a winner!

You listed a bunch of ways why Tesla sucks then caveat that with, but they are doing great. It's a joke not meant to offend.

Well established, they paved the way for vehicles like the Mach E. And Ford took the opportunity instead of bad mouthing electric vehicles and making every excuse in the book why hybrids or some other tech is better. Full credit to Ford I hope this is only the beginning for them.

interior is not that bad. After driving lots of Toyota's, few Lexi and an Audi A7, I think my Model 3 interior is premium, better than Toyota, nowhere luxurious as Audi or Lexus, but actually not bad... a lot of materials are good even at the bottom of interior. It is just simple design, dominated by huge screen. I drove at least 20 different people so far and nobody mentioned it was cheap, they were all surprised how good it was.

No i didn't, i was stating that what tesla has done is obviously aligned with consumer desires. Consumers willing to overlook certain things to get other things.

it's actually no different than that other giant successful company, toyota. Until i bought lexus i never considered buying a toyota, because i found them to be made as cheaply as possible, with dull design, but with high precision manufacturing and key design points to make sure they're reliable.

The only toyota i've owned was a used camry i had for 4 months last year. Others here warned me it wouldn't last in my stable and they were right. That car would probably have gone on for hundreds of thousands of miles and saved me a fortune in auto ownership. But i hated it. Too cheap, not quiet, nothing special. I tried to like it, but couldn't. That's how i feel about tesla for the most part. It's a fast electric appliance. I certainly like the S and X more, because they have nicer interiors, but they aren't the main play by tesla. Once you get past the torque-monster speed of EVs, the model 3 is like a camry, and the model Y is like a RAV4. Plain but very functional. They're selling big numbers to the masses and going to continue to do so and evolve.

Go Tesla!

The underlying design of the Model 3 is actually very good. It has a 49/51 balance and people with coilovers have been doing great on track and autocross. If you get the performance version, you can modify everything from motor bias to nanny control and it has drift mode . It drives better than my IS350 F-sport so i have no complaints.
