Grand Opening Friday, December 10, 2021
5 dealers nationwide with 3 in Mexico City and 1 in Guadalajara and Monterrey
They hope to sell at least 2,500 to 3,000 units in the first year with 60% of them being hybrid
Initially the LS and ES will be sold in December and then the LX, NX, US, IS and RX will come in the 2nd half of 2022
My thoughts:
I remember when I moved there in February 2002 and lived there until April 2008 and saw Toyota open its doors and although it has taken them almost 20 years, I think it is long overdue and I wish the economy and other circumstances there were better. I was a little surprised by the placement of 2 of the 3 dealers in Mexico City with them placing one near Universidad in SE Mexico City given the neighborhood there and also one in Polanco. Polanco is probably the most luxurious shopping area in the city, but they must be trying to capture the neighborhood market with Chapultepec just to the east of there along with getting some marketing vistibility. I do agree on placing one in Santa Fe where there is a big business, shopping and upscale living area (I worked there and lived a little bit north in Interlomas (where I thought they might stick one), but would have liked to have seen them place one in the north near Satelite where the neighborhood might be more advantageous. The ones placed in Monterrey and Guadalajara are good placements.
I think much as Toyota is now known there for high reliability, Lexus will have that as a strong selling point. Mexico City is not kind to vehicles though that has improved since I lived there.
