I have a rockband and we rented cargo vans on a regular basis all around 2018 and 2019. We had a forced "interruption" like everyone else in the 2020's.
Generally, we always choose the same type of cargo vans derivated family transporters.
The Ford Transit Custom was one of the most comfortable and had a low noise level that made him enjoyable. But it is, in my country, already known to have been blessed with rather fragile parts.
The Peugeot Expert is extremely widely offered. All major brands present in the EU use rebadged PSA models. The Opel Zafira, the Toyota HiAce, the Citroën Jumpy are all this car with different plastics and interior decorations.
It's a plush machine, not impressive, but above average in all aspects. The ones we had where all rather reliable.
The Mercedes V-class was the most comfortable and the best of the whole bunch in my opinion. it had a strong limousine feel, the seats where great and it was rather more capable than the other products quoted above. It was by far the superior one at ultra-high speeds, like on the Autobahn, it has also a lower roofline that the other vans quoted, making him able to access tiny carparks with low rooflines. One of its major downpoint is the Renault Engine, that I see as a huge problem for long term reliability. And the price is always 10k more than anything else of the same kind.
I'd take the MB engine over the nicer grille with Renault engine. There are coach builders in USA that customize them quite nicely, like the one in the video below, but most of them sold in the US are rather spartan. I own a cargo version, and the passenger version is geared toward taxi duty. Nissan and Ford also have the NV200 and the Transit Connect that compete with the Metris, but they are FWD and very ugly in comparison.
Oh, and Dodge also makes the Promaster City that competes with the transit. Google it for the photo, but do it on an empty stomach, otherwise you might throw up, lol.
