Been a busy summer of road tripping and pulling the trailer all over the PNW. Took a rock to the windshield so it's getting replaced tomorrow.

The grille had more chrome than I could handle so I swapped it out yesterday. I'll be removing the chrome from the front bumper in the coming weeks/days. I'm still deciding if I want to delete the chrome from the mirrors. Thoughts?

That looks insanely better than the stock chrome one, much less garish

Thanks! I am super happy with how it turned out. I'll be even happier when I get the chrome off the front bumper. It drives me crazy that the back bumper is body color and the front one is chrome.

New front end looks GREAT.

Toyota is the ONLY brand that does this right, IMO. Just the old school TOYOTA grill.

If they did it right the first time, OP wouldn't have had to change the grill lol

As an aside, RAM also has this option on their trucks. And Ford does on their Raptor

But you can get a Tundra from the factory with that TOYOTA grill, OP got the 1794 Edition which is glitzy and luxurious.

The TOYOTA print has a heritage. I'd want my Tundra with that and the army green paint.

TOYOTA grill way better than the Ford or Ram grill IMO.

Touche! What I had really wanted was a Platinum trim. I liked the black honeycomb grille and painted components. Unfortunately, there were none available when I was looking so I opted for the 1794 with the initial plan to swap out the grille, but then I was sort of hoping I'd just get used to it, but I didn't.

When I bought the parts for the conversion, I made a last minute plan to go with the TRD PRO grille as I like the "TOYOTA" logo on it. Unfortunately that made it a lot more expensive as instead of reusing my round emblem, I had to buy the radar garnish for the TRD PRO which was ridiculously expensive. Oh well.

For reference, here is a Platinum trim for those who aren't familiar.

As for Ford and RAM, I love the looks, especially of the RAM. I did actually consider a RAM but their forums kind of scared me away.

I did, yes. I ordered the parts online through a site recommended on the Tundras forum. It took me maybe 45 minutes to do the grille and surround. I think the bumper will be more involved as I have to take it off of the truck, remove the chrome portions, take out the parking sensors and fog lights, then reinstall it all with the new bumper caps.

Ok, well point being it's available for all 3. Four if you count the Chevy monstrosity.

I agree the Toyota one has heritage.

Understood, I forgot yours was 1794 edition. Too much chrome, yours looks much more tasteful now. I don't mind the chrome bumper since you have the mirror caps and running boards in chrome, but it is odd the rear bumper is body colored.

The RAM one is pretty well executed, maybe it doesn't have the heritage the TOYOTA one does, but still looks good. The FORD one I think could be executed better. But hey at least they all look better than this:

I don't dislike the chrome grille - I think it's nice for what it is but I DEFINITELY think the new grille looks better. And so much better than most of the other things out there.

I love your de-chroming outcome and agree with you going the TRD PRO route for the logo/name. However, I would leave the mirrors alone if it was mine.

I installed a black mesh grill on my 2001 Tundra and went with a FJ40 Toyota logo on it. It's understated, but a throwback to my Landcrusher days. I was thinking of adding a pair of round headlights to the grill as well, as a further call back, but probably not worth the effort. It could end up looking like a mash-up!

I totally get that sort of thing - it's sorta like the bookends don't match. On trucks I've never been a huge fan of painted bumpers so for me I think I'd rather swap the rear parts of the bumper out for chrome (if that existed).

So are the parts of the front bumper body color or are they just more of a gray instead of a chrome? The photo of the Silver Platinum edition you posted seemed to look like they were not body color but it was a little hard to tell in the photo.

The TRD Pro with the "TOYOTA" lettering is definitely better than the standard Logo. I've actually never loved the Toyota "T" logo. I don't hate it, and it can look better or worse on certain vehicles depending on how its trimmed out. You saved all that money on labor, you'll have the truck for a quite a while I'm sure so having something you really like is worth it.

I think this too is why I don't mind the Chrome parts of the front bumper and I think it's mostly because of the chrome running boards, not necessarily the chrome mirrors. With all the other chrome gone it makes me wonder what matte black running boards would look like.

The Chevy thing is just horrible. I just don't know how something like that gets out of a design studio with people thinking it looks good.

I am leaning towards leaving the mirrors chrome. Now that there isn't so much up front, I don't mind what's left on the sides.

It definitely bothers me that they don't match. I'd probably care less if the rear one was chrome. I prefer painted bumpers but not everyone does. Here is a side photo (best I have at the moment) where you can see the odd mismatch and I just don't get why they did that.

On the Platinum trim, the entire front bumper is body-color. On mine, the center portion of the bumper is a dark metallic gray. I'll be leaving that and just swapping out the chrome portions for white ones.
