I haven’t washed my cars in a while and I need to badly. I had both cars in for service this week and last and told them both to not wash the cars. I don’t like any of them washing my cars and definitely don’t want to have my cars end up looking like Och’s BMW.

 

haven't really done much besides just a basic wash... just started a new job back in december doing auto policy sales at GEICO and there's been a lot to learn over the past few months, it's been kinda tiring and when i get home i don't really wanna first go wash my cars lol... it's all been very informative though, my main takeaways as far as how to have an affordable policy are don't get into an accident, have a license for at least 3 years, and don't live in brooklyn or the bronx lol

 

I've watched a bunch of videos on prepping the paint for sealant application and want to do this for the first time on my Model S. Clay bar, fine polish with light compound, IPA wipe down and finally application of the Graphene Ceramic spray. I'm nervous about potentially screwing up the paint finish in the "polishing" phase, but I really want to make my car's paint "pop" as soon as it's warm enough. It will never "pop" like a darker color would, but it will certainly look really good if done properly.

 

With that level of prep, I would do a real coating instead of a spray coating...90% of the work is done.

The coating is easy. The hard part is the prep. You can absolutely do the coating.

 

Interesting. My impression is that the coating requires greater finessing skills. Do you have a link to a video that explains/shows this well for noob?

 

There are tons of coatings out there now for consumers that are very easy to install. Its really no different than waxing or sealing the paint. If you search YouTube for ceramic coating, there are TONS of how to videos. I've done it multiple times, its very easy,

 

I'll try out this coating and see how it goes - GTECHNIQ EXO V4 and CSL.

 

I'm just waiting for the spring pollen to end before taking any detailing or even any car washing on. My wife has taken over the entire garage so all the cars sit outside, and I'm just watching them slowly turn pure yellow.

No real sense washing; I cleaned the windows on one yesterday and they're fully covered with a layer of gunk again today.

 

Time to get one of those portable temporary garages

 

I'd have to leave it inside the bubble all the time during this time of year in the south. Maybe I can stick the wheels through the bottom of the bubble and just drive around like that.

 

I took my 911 to a local high end detail shop for a regular wash.
For the $$$ i paid, not sure if its worth it. Plan to buy pressure washer and try doing myself but then you also need the leaf blower, towels etc 😬

Most of my car has PPF.
I use Adam’s Detail Spray after wash usually- anything else that’s better?

Can you ceramic coat PPF?

Definitively YES.

 

Just throwing my 2 cents. For the price and ease of use, I find the Turtle Wax Ceramic Spray coatings really great. Just make sure you prep the surface with a claybar and light polishing before you apply it. The car feels very smooth to the touch and lasts for a couple of months. For 16 dollars at your local auto parts store, its really tough to beat the value prop.
