the reason some of us buy Lexus and Toyota is because they ARE behind all the new technology that breaks and leaves the user stranded in limp mode or at the dealer getting fixed. Because of where I live reliability and driveability are actually safety issues. I need my cars to work all the time, regardless of weather and distances, it can be life and death. Not everyone is in the same boat. The A8 is a great car to drive, especially in Germany where you can open it up on the autobahn and really experience what its made for. Most certainly your brother will enjoy it. FWIW in cold winters touch screens don't last long, and when you can't change the heat to defrost its a problem
I think life and death is making sure your car is performing on the Autobahn.
That said, Toyota was doing touchscreens in the late 1990s in their Lexus models and during the remote touchscreen era Toyota still had touchscreens in their Toyota line up. Running different software.
I think an A8 with all the screens might be a serious liability out of warranty. It would be interesting to read up on Audi/VW tech. My new 21 4R has a sharp HD screen with hard buttons. All the tech I need. I am sure Lexus will be fine.
I think most people want their Lexus or Toyota’s to work...all the time...always...
Are we implying that all other cars besides Lexus Is in danger of leaving you stranded? Lol. Most cars these days rarely leave you stranded. It's soooo rare. The only time I see cars stranded are the ones that have bad batteries in parking lots.
I love the stick system, the touch screens always require you to lean forward and smudge the stupid thing. I hate having to always clean them off in the cars that have them, the stick system is way easier to use at least for me

I feel the same way. I think I've touched the screen once since I took delivery of my car.

What's so hard about one simple wipe with a damp cloth? A monkey could do that.
