Elon Musk has confirmed this is a prototype of a quick release roof to allow the driver to eject from the vehicle in the case of an imminent collision.
Didn't James Bond's Aston have an ejection seat in it a half-century ago?
No excuse, Elon need to step up his quality control and customer service. Until I hear that happens there will be no Tesla in my driveway.
I can see other manufacturers getting it right. The Lexus UX EV (not sold in NA) should blow the doors off a Tesla Y for quality. But I will say that the Model S is kinda well made inside.

At first I laughed, then I remembered how bad it could have become if someone was behind. I don't understand how they were able to release the car without making sure that would never happen. Water entry wouldn't be very surprising from a company with bad quality controls, and not dangerous, but you can't deliberately put lives at risk.

It is strange that this would have happened. Maybe a one off....hopefully there are not more like it. But for just one model to have this quality area seems off....maybe is was done on purpose to make a video for You Tube.
