Default CD button not working

I have a Lexus from the early 2000s with those typical Toyota head units that's known to get CDs and cassette tapes stuck. My AM/FM radio is working, but when I press CD or the eject button, it's not working. Before all of this occurred, I had an error 3, so I attempted to fix it by disconnecting the battery. Now the CD unit will not work when I press the CD button. I checked the fuses and they are all fine. Any ideas on how I can get the CD player to work? I read a few forums and they said that you can drive on a bumpy road or smack it to attempt to get it to work. Should I try to smack it as well?

Is there a little pin hole to put an unbent paperclip in?

Smacking it works but only if a CD gets stuck.

I got another head unit from the junkyard and it has the same issue. I also tried smacking it and it doesn't do anything. I'm think it has to do with the electrical issue in my car itself. Anyone have ideas?

Either I need to get my stereo/head unit and plug it into another car or bench test it to see if it really works outside of my own car.

Odd. A different head unit should work. In theory I guess
