this certainly wont help them either. Federal judge orders judge to potentially buy back these Fiesta/Focus with these horrid transmissions. Why anyone thought putting a DCT in a fiest/focus that is a dry clutch was a great idea is beyond me. Neighbor has one of these cars and he said the extended warranty paid for itself 10x from several replacements

Angry Ford Fiesta And Focus Owners Receiving BIG Payouts

15 HOURS AGO BY JAY TRAUGOTT LAWSUIT / 9 COMMENTSA federal judge has approved a class-action settlement.

The ongoing saga of defective transmissions installed in the Ford Fiesta and Ford Focus appears to have entered a new and potentially final phase. According to media reports, including the Detroit Free Press, a federal judge late last week approved a class-action settlement that will see Ford repurchase thousands of vehicles for upwards of $22,000 apiece. Details of the settlement are only now being released as lawyers make a final deal with Ford.

Michael Kirkpatrick, an attorney who works for the non-profit consumer advocacy group called Public Citizen, claims the settlement could cost Ford upwards of $500 million. Kirkpatrick previously successfully fought against the initial $35 million settlement because it worked in financial favor of the lawyers, not the plaintiffs. The settlement was overturned.

If you recall, the case involves the 2012-2016 Focus and 2011-2016 Fiesta models equipped with the DPS6 transmission. This gearbox was prone to "shuddering, slipping, bucking, jerking, hesitation while changing gears, premature internal wear, delays in downshifting, and in some cases, sudden or delayed acceleration."

In response to the new ruling, Ford spokesman Said Deep said that "We are pleased with the court's ruling and look forward to the final implementation of the settlement." The lead attorney representing the plaintiffs, Ryan Wu, says this has been an eight-year saga to hold Ford accountable for these transmission issues and that the automaker could wind up spending at least $100 million for buybacks alone.

Another piece of good news for owners is that there's still plenty of time to seek compensation from Ford. They will have at least seven months from the date of the settlement to file a buyback claim. Some may even have until 2023 to do so.

With supply chain issues, lower sales, crushing debt, Ford appears headed for bankruptcy.

Offset by $100M of long term debt. Not a good place to be.

Yes...sorry. $100B. Their factories only have a $36B Book value position. It doesn't seem like they are very healthy.

Ford is done.
GM is not far behind.

Sad for US automakers.
Poor management, lack of vision and just outright greed to not produce quality products for sake of saving $$$.

I still don’t see any long term logic in pulling the Focus and Fusion cars from US market.
The overall build quality even on top line cars such as GT350 is embarrassing. Misaligned panels, unpainted trim, loose wiring. This is just effort!!! Its like a talented baseball player not running to 1st base on a grounder.

Unions are nice but should not mean you can do half *** work and still be employed.

They need to restructure without UAW and instead offer better pay to their engineers to attract better talent. I dont know if this is true, but I heard engineers at Ford and GM make like 60-80k while lazy UAW slobs make way more.

Go look at their latest Q or financials on Yahoo. It's on their balance sheet

I can't say for sure. But to mostly bet on the SUV craze was, for my perception, a big mistake. French peoples have a word of play "don't put all your eggs in the same basket". This is exactly what Ford is doing, and it strongly remembers me of when every american builder wanted to make oversized cars with bigblocks.

i read an article suggesting there's talk of a merger with vw which would make a lot of sense and ford struggles in europe and vw struggles in the u.s.

ford abandoning the rivian partnership signals to me they just can't afford the risk of a very uncertain return.

I agree with you that pulling sedans from the American market was nonsense, but I wouldn't lump Ford and GM together when it comes to assembly quality. There are some exceptions, but, in general, despite the excellent materials that are being used in the interior of some new Lincoln SUVs, I think GM, overall, now has better fit/finish. Ford doesn't seem to inspect their vehicles quite as well as GM at the factory before they are shipped.
