Figure-8 Racing at Islip.
One of the most interesting forms of motorsports I've seen was the old figure-8 track at Islip, NY, out on Long Island, which closed up in the 1980s and was replaced by a cookie factory. It started out as a small 0.2 mile oval, and the center figure-8 section was added later.
On the figure-8 race events, the speeds are quite low (for obvious reasons), but I find it entertaining to watch. When crashes do occur (and there are many of them) they are somewhat like a Demolition Derby, usually at low speeds without serious injury or death to any of the drivers or spectators.
Enjoy.
