You should be looking at SUVs then to replace your sedan rather than sedans and hatches

Yes. A crossover. Not a real SUV. I still think a hatch has more value than a sedan, but we have to suvs so a cross over to us may not be as much value. If I had to have one car, it would be a cross over

She's already got a 4Runner in the family, though it is old and has needed several repairs. Sounds to me like she wants a small hatch (or crossover hatch) which would carry some things in back but also be cheaper to run.....4Runners don't get the best mileage.

A Mazda5, Tuscon, Sportage, or RAV4 would all be nice options

My 4Runner gets 15MPG combined. His LX gets 11. They are quite expensive to operate, so a small car is far more easier. Currently getting a consistent 35MPG combined with my Corolla and the Matrix is about 28.
