Introducing Tesla Insurance
One thing i think we are all missing is that Tesla has access to ALL of the cars data, cameras, mapping, etc. It will likely be easier for them to determine who is likely at fault in an accident.
A side note, i wonder when we'll see options under Tesla insurance for, "limit your cars acceleration to 50% and 80mph for 5% off your premiums!". This is probably a real easy over the air item or them to do.
And what if you get into too many accidents or tickets? Can tesla reduce the power on your car? reduce top speed, acceleration, increases the nannies, etc...
Lots of things to think about

I would not be surprised if dedicated Tesla insurance is more expensive than mass-market insurance. Without the large base of customers, the ability of a number of low-claim, low-cost customers to subsidize high-claim, high-cost customers is reduced. And without some insurance company underwriting Tesla Insurance, I doubt that Elon Musk could make a go of it.
I have to ask again: Why must Elon Musk insist on going his own way again, this time with insurance? First it was automotive components, such as seats. There are highly-specialized suppliers in the market supplying seats, automotive plastics, and automotive insurance. These specialist suppliers are able to their parts and services at (much) lower cost and (much) better quality (due to economies of scale) than any single automaker can do on its own.

Hadn't thought of that. With the Model 3, especially, the output can be reduced quite a bit and the vehicle still have enough (if not more) than is needed for most normal driving.

with gps tesla knows if you're driving on a track or airstrip at 150mph or on a public road. it should slow and/or limit the car on public roads, imo. no one has any business driving 150mph on u.s. public roads. not because it couldn't be done safely in the right circumstances, but because hardly anyone else is likely to be going that fast, and speed difference is often what causes accidents.
The site is actually back up and I'm impressed. The site quoted me a $118 per month with 500k medical, 250k property, and 250 deductible on collision and comprehensive. That's actually a decent savings on my current insurance. $1400 a year is probably less than many of you who have Lexus.
up that deductible and it can get even lower. Hard to compare insurance from different markets but $700/6m for a vehicle would be quite expensive for my area. Thats what my moms LC costs to insure

It goes by area as well. Of course model as well. I am sure the gas model HL is cheaper to insure than the hybrid model.
Interesting thought on the hybrid versus gas. We do get a discount for "alternative fuel" but I don't know how much it is or if it makes the difference.

my g90 (for me) is about $1200 a year which is ok.
